I'm proposing a G+ tag #debellisantiquitatis for DBA related posts that you don't want to just put here. I'll be using it from time to time, and hopefully others will too.

Maybe "propose" is too strong a term. How about:

Hey y'all, I'm gonna start using that tag on DBA-related stuff. Just putting it out there in case you want to do the same.

Hi
I make paper minis (have a few on RPG now) and am deving a whole range compatible with HOTT. They are 15mm print and play. covering Orc, Human, Undead and Elves so far. The range is going to be based around Core armys which are free. Giving a prospective player enough to play a proper battle. All they have to do is a little cutting out. Reading the idea of an open source HOTT I was wondering if there would be a demand for PNP elements to be included.

I got my copy of DBA3 from On Military Matters and I am admittedly pretty excited as it has been a few years. My only complaint is just about every one of my painted armies has modifications to the lists. Some are massive changes. Ahh well, a reason to pickup the brush I guess.

100 paces is now equal to one base width, so it is physically possible to turn an element 90 degrees( before there had to be a special rule that said you could) and when an element is In the second rank, ie front to back with the front line of the group, they can move left and right along the group's rear in som kind of regular increment. Also, it prevents people from completely rearranging their line before the enemy reaches them. You can still try, but it's not encouraged. And it grows shooting/charge ranges, which looked ridiculously small compared to the miniatures moving them. Warband move decently fast in solid form just bc of the wider increments. You may argue that your opponent moves the same, of course, but it takes more PIPs for them to rear move.

Does anyone know if there will be Australian distributors for DBA 3.0?

OK. Maybe I am just dim, or just pushy, but I have posted this in several places, and have received likes, but no confirmation as to whether or not people would like to participate in the project. If enough people got together it should be a rather easy thing to accomplish. If anyone is interested in actively participating, please let me know.

Good thoughts to facilitate HOTT.  Sue is working on keeping HOTT in print.  Give her some time before trying something new.  There is no Guide to HOTT as it is simple enough to understand without a Guide.

Orc hordes, lead by blade general flanked by shooters and followed up by riders in support. 15mm minis on HOTT compatible bases. Still need colour, these will be part of my free core sets.

Had my first look at the new DBA 3 rules. It is interesting how they have taken an old set of rules and updated them to look like an old set of rules. It is a huge missed opportunity to increase the reach of DBA which has shown its ability to last the test of time. There are many beautifully painted armies out them, why not use them to illustrate the moves? There are not even paragraph headings to make finding rules easier. I am sure the thought of an electronic format has not even been thought of. I am trying to introduce DBA into high schools as a teaching aid and the new DBA 3 rule book will not excite any students. On the plus side the increased movement distance make for a much more enjoyable game where reserves are now an option. The "Shield Wall" support rule works well, increasing the potency of Spear armies (until the wall breaks). Maybe we will see a modern set of rules when DBA 4 is released in 20 years (with 3D printer files for each army!)

I agree. I picked up my copy yesterday for $47 and it's hard to believe that they couldn't improve the presentation of the system and its rules.

Hey all, I'm new to DBA and historical war gaming in general; I have been painting miniatures (fantasy mostly) on and off for years, and recently came back to doing so, and I'm blown away by the proliferation of beautiful historical figures. Since I'm not using my BA in history for my day job, I might as well use it for something fun.

It seems like DBA 3.0 is on it's way; should I wait for that, or go ahead and buy 2.2?

Does anyone know if there's a DBA player's directory to find other players?

Mostly the "obvious changes". I have only had time to play a few games so far (distracted by "One Hour Wargames" and "Lion Rampant") but each one has been Wham, Bham! I must try a close order spear vs spear bash. It might take a little longer to get to a conclusion................or perhaps be a little more subtle in my use of the little lead heroes?
