In search of the antichrist (Part 4, conclusion) or is he someone else?

We have now arrived at a junction which I would call the “junction of truth”: rightly dividing the word of God.

At age 25, the Scripture and the Saviour were both presented to me. At that age, I learned to sing this Sunday school song “Standing on the promises of God” To stand on the Word of God, is our first love. Departure from anything apart from standing on the Holy Scripture is a slippery and soul troubling path.

Throughout these four postings, we have been reminded of the present danger of leaning on knowledge of men, knowledge of the early church and finally knowledge of Church history.

When we enter into the search mode, we need diligence, a right spirit and an open hear to hear what the Spirit has to say to the Assembly.

Apart from Samuel’s word “Speak, for thy servant heareth” no true light will enter in and confusion will abide. Fortunately, the young Samuel sleep in the temple where the Ark of Testimony stood. (1 Samuel 3:4; 3:10)

The book of Revelation introduces us to avenues that could not be developed until Christ had come and the Assembly was to be its representative during the absence of the rejected Messiah.

A house and a great house:

The first book of Timothy presents to us God’s house as a pillar and base of the truth. (1Tim3:15) In his second epistle to Timothy, the apostle has to use a new terminology to describe what men have done to the house of God. It is now characterized as a great house, (2Tim 2:20)

Every chapter has the word “suffering”! Suffering for the gospel (2Tim 1:80); suffering as a good soldier (2Tim 2:3) suffering for Christ (2 Tim 2:9) and finally suffering because few will have upheld sound doctrine, preferring teachers that will turn away their ear from the truth turning aside to fables. (2 Tim 4:3-5)

Amidst these elements, the book of Revelation will bring forth the departure from Christianity to Christendom as seen in the seven churches. (Rev. 2-3)

The prophet Daniel was greatly occupied with the history of his people and its temple and the city but was never given the opportunity to vision farther. For him prophecy became a sealed thing. (Daniel 12:3, a seal book)

We will need an Ezekiel to witness the restoration of the land, the temple and the city. (Ez.40 etc.)

The era of grace has produced another witness for Christ, yet the end product is a great house, a Christendom and apostasy of the truth once delivered. (the embodiment of revealed Pauline truth, for he only speaks of the Church)
“The faith once delivered” is not the virtuous faith that saves us but the whole body of truth one delivered by the holy writings “once taught to the saints.” (Jude 3)

The false church: (anti-church)

This departure from truth by the evangelical world brings us to an apostate state that the seer John is led to comment on. What amazes him to the uttermost is the false bride or profession saying publicly that it represents the interest of Christ This of course is ecclesiastical Babylon, the great whore of Revelation 17-18

Apart from this false religious representation, the seer John will develop the three other main players of the Revelation.

Three main players:

One verse will sum up these leaders and it is our God given privilege to identify them by Scripture and not church fathers or church history.

This trio of evil is presented to us between the 6th and 7th vials. It is an open parenthesis before the last occurrence of the fury of God.
“And I saw out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits…” Rev. 16:13

Other players:

Of course there are other players which are not found in the book of Revelation but found in the prophet of Old. The king of the North, the king of the South, the most Northern areas which is Gog and his allies and other confederates as in Psalm 83.

These are not mentioned by John but Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel and Ezekiel and most smaller prophet have quite a bit to say about the end of times.

It is to be remembered that the apostle John covers mostly the western or apostate or Christendom aspect. The other prophets are more directly concerned with the Eastern question after the Beast and false Prophet are cast alive into the lake of fire. Revelation 19:20. Then we need to move East for last enemies of God to come forward.

The wicked trio:

Some have called these unclean spirits, the trinity of evil. I prefer to keep the trinity for the Godhead and will refer to these evil spirit as the “wicked trio.”
In our process of identification, the first is called,

1. The Dragon.

Scripture is quite expressive as to who is this representation. “And the great dragon was cast out, the ancient serpent, he who is called Devil and Satan, he who deceives the whole habitable world, he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” Revelation 12:9

He has just been cast out of heaven and knows he has little time before the wrath of God consumes him. He is therefore on the lookout for accolades which will bid his will. Of course they need to be human being, which he will wickedly energize. One instrument will turn out with political might and the other with religious exploits and miracles.

2. The Beast.

Interesting enough, we find two beasts in Revelation 13. The first rising out of the sea of turmoil and evolution. (Revelation 13:1-10) The second seems to follow after the first and is described as coming out of the earth. This beast is likened as a lamb but speaks as a dragon. Miracles attest his authenticity. Revelation 13:11-13

This first beast we identified as the rise of the future imperial prince to come under the revived Roman empire. (See part 3 for details)

Every time John refers to the first beast which he has characterized as “seven heads and ten horns”
Rev. 12:3 (the source of power)
Rev.13:1 (rising out of the sea)
Rev. 17:3 (woman sitting on the beast)
Rev. 17:7 (the mystery of the woman and the beast)

Although there are two beasts, John always refer to the first one with “seven heads and ten horns.” This beast is the Roman prince to come of Daniel 9:26 and is also the same personage of the described little horn of Daniel 7:8 This little horn has with him or under him ten horns or kings. Daniel 7:24

As if for the apostle John, there is only one beast that comes to his immediate mind. The beast rising from the sea, the beast that has the woman sitting on him or the woman and the beast or the beast cast into the lake of fire. All is the same for him: the political rising Roman empire is the beast, more so when this Roman prince to came is cast into the lake of fire. The political empire is not cast into the lake of fire, it is destroyed! But its leader or imperial leader find its end in the lake of fire. With him is another personage under the name of false prophet. (Revelation 19:20)

For no scriptural reason can we identify this beast as the antichrist. Unless one steps away from standing on scripture and prefers to stand on church history or church fathers. Unfortunately, many teachers on prophecy have taken this avenue and caused many to turn away from truth.

So now we are left with our third member of the evil trio.

3.The false prophet.

Three times we read of the false prophet. Every time he is closely associated with the political Beast.

Rev 16:13 “And I saw out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.”

Rev: 19:20 “20 And the beast was taken, and the false prophet that [was] with him, who wrought the signs before him by which he deceived them that received the mark of the beast, and those that worship his image. Alive were both cast into the lake of fire which burns with brimstone.”

Rev: 20:10 “And the devil who deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where [are] both the beast and the false prophet; and they shall be tormented day and night for the ages of ages.”

Our second beast…

We will now seek to identify our second beast of Revelation 13:11:18 Both are called beast. To be a beast in the proper sense of Daniel you need to be a influential political leader or power.

Throughout history four empires have come out of the sea as prophesied by the prophet Daniel. “ And four great beasts came up from the sea, different one from another.” (7:2)

The fourth which is Roman and existed during the days of our Lord and the seer John. It has since gone astray as it crumbled under the northern hordes in A.D.476.

Out of this falling apart rose up independent states known as Europe today. This can only be a truthful statement under the fourth empire since the other three world empires were in the East. Only the fourth is characterized has having authority in the Western sphere.

So, the revival of the fourth beast has to be a western Roman revival under the new imperial leader, the future prince to come.

Now we move to our second beast always identified with the first. To be reckoned as a beast, the second needs political clout otherwise he could not be identified as a true termed beast. He needs to be a king or ruler of certain influence.

The Jewish king…

The first mention of him is found in Daniel 11:36. “And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and speak monstrous things against the God of gods.”

The prophetic Spirit does not even name this king. The Jews will recognize and accept him.

Only three times is there a mention of this Jewish king of self will.

Isaiah 30:33 “For Topheth is prepared of old; for the king also it is prepared: he hath made it deep and large; its pile is fire and much wood; the breath of Jehovah, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it.” (from the context we gather that the Assyrian enemy will go into the lake of fire BUT also the king.)

Isaiah 57:” And thou wentest to the king with ointment, and didst multiply thy perfumes, and didst send thy messengers afar off, and didst debase thyself unto Sheol. (from the context we gather that the Jews will be poised to bring worship to this king.)

Daniel 11:36. “And the king shall do according to his will.” (This chapter 11 is an historical portrait of different kings that ruled over the Jews. The last being Antiochus Ephimanes who desecrated the temple, a type of a greater evil king to come.

From verse 11:36 we have a great prophetic jump that brings us to the time of the end. “And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him; and the king of the north shall come against him.

The “Him” is this self willed king reigning in Israel. He is the Jewish ruler that represent the “many” (apostate Jews) who will work out a covenant with the Roman political prince to come. (Daniel 9:26)

Let us carefully look at this king in Israel who exalts himself in sin.

He will do according to his will. This self will king will even exalt himself against any god “and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and speak monstrous things against the God of gods.” 11:36

He will prosper till the indignation is over, that is to say till the wrath of God is over with the Jews.

“And he will not regard the God of his fathers.” That is to say, he has no interest in the God of the patriarch Abraham Isaac and Jacob. 11:37

“Nor the desire of women.” That is to say, he cares not for the godly cherished desire of every pious woman to bring forth the promised seed of Genesis 3:15, the Messiah! Some prophetic exposures will lamely say that he cares not for women!!!

Further more he distributes that land of Israel to his friends.” and shall divide the land [to them] for a reward.” 11:39

This king is of Jewish blood and answer to the prophetic utterance of our Lord “If another come in his own name, him ye will receive.” John 5:43

There is our false Messiah!!! The antichrist of John’s epistle!!! According to John, he does not deny the Christ (Messiah)but denies that Jesus is that Messiah. The Jewish hopes he administers to himself. In the same statement he denies the revelation of “Father” which is properly Christian. So Jewish and Christian revelations he brushes away.

“Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is the antichrist who denies the Father and the Son.” 1 John 2:22

Because of his civil status as king, this Jewish king takes character of a beast in Revelation 13.

His appearing seems to come after the first Roman beast (out of the sea) has appeared in our prophetic timeline. Then he come forward as the second beast out of the earth. If the sea spoke of turmoil, the second beast originates (out of the earth), a more settled period. (the earth is contrasted to the sea)

As we carefully look at this second beast he has the appearance of a lamb with only two horns! Now the real lamb has seven horn which speaks of full and perfect might. (with seven eyes, perfect discernment.)

“And I saw in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, a Lamb standing, as slain, having seven horns and seven eyes.” Revelation 5:6

So our second beast is an imposter of the true lamb, the religious antichrist. His language betrays him since he speaks as a dragon. The second beast is also under the influence of Satan and this religious beast is energized by Satan.

The first beast (the Roman power and its prince) have given this second beast all its power in order that he can influence people to worship the political beast that has risen out of its deadly wound.

Miracles and signs of wonders characterizes this second beast whereas the first has political wits. Signs or fire from heaven attest that this beast claims authenticity. Elijah in a time of idolatry uses this mean to prove that is message is from God.

Here, this second religious beast attest that his message is heavenly. This false prophet is a scam, an impostor, a false prophet, an antichrist or man of sin.

We will see more of this character since he is always liked with the Beast. From then on, his royal character as King seems to fade out and will be now name as to his real activity: the false prophet!

A sum up of our evil trio:

The Dragon is Satan
The Beast is the future revived Roman empire with its coming roman prince.
The False Prophet is the second beast, the self willed king, the antichrist, the man of sin.

Both these individuals end up thrown alive in the lake of fire.

Musing on...

It is a great mistake to try and understand prophecy by musing on current events.

The so called "prophetic updates" of today's happenings are no sure way to an understanding of prophecy. CIrcumstances to not ascertain prophecy.

What does ascertain prophecy is the word of God. This is the excellent way we get our news of coming events, Faith believes the Scriptures and is never led astray or desapointed.

So does Daniel. The circumstances or "prophecy updates" that the end of the 70 was approaching did not influence him.

What did impact this student of scripture was the Scripture of Jeremiah which told him that the alloted period was 70 years. ( 25:11 and 29:10 see also Daniel 9:2)

Beware of so called "prophecy updates"! Be a Daniel, learn from Scripture, the sure word of prophecy.

In search of the antichrist (Part 3) or is he someone else?

But more scriptural proof is required to ascertain that were are really speaking of the revival of this fourth empire that Daniel so wondered at.

We must keep in mind that this is the power or empire that approved the crucifixion of our blessed Lord. Their throne was characterized not by righteousness but by iniquity. Nothing goes unnoticed and unjudged before a righteous God.

This is not His way of ruling this universe, it was the Roman way.

“Shall the throne of wickedness be united to thee, which frameth mischief into a law?” Psalm 94:20 The Roman could unite wickedness with their throne, in the Millennium righteousness will rule the throne of Messiah.

The revival of the fourth empire confirmed.

In Daniel 7 we were introduced to the fourth empire. On leading identification mark was “the ten horns” associated with the Roman power.

“And it was different from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.” 7:7

“And concerning the ten horns that were in its head.” 7:20

The seer John uses the same terminology of the “ten horns” to ascertain that we speak of the Roman beast.

Four times he uses the identical language. The first mention is in reference to Satan that is behind and acting in the power of his puppet, the Roman horn or prince we read:

“And another sign was seen in the heaven: and behold, a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns.” Revelation 12:3

The next three are a direct link to the Roman beast and his ten horns.

”And I saw a beast rising out of the sea, having ten horns and seven heads.” Revelation 13:1

” And I saw a woman sitting upon a scarlet beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.” Revelation 17:3

“I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast which carries her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns.” Revelation 17:7

Every time that we read in the book of Revelation of a beast and ten horns, it speaks of the fourth empire.

Identification of the Beast and the ten horns:

Now the apostle John goes further to identify” the beast and the ten horns.”

” The beast which thou sawest was, and is not, and is about to come up out of the abyss and go into destruction.” Revelation 17:8

John speaks of the past. (WAS) (the Roman empire and its prince was.)

John speaks of the present. (IS) (the Roman empire and its prince was responsible for his captivity in the prison of Pathmos. Rev 1:9 )

John speaks of the prophetic future. (ABOUT TO COME OUT OF THE ABYSS) (the fourth empire and its prince is to be back in action or revived, yet its source is satanic)

John now speaks about the end or outcome of the revised and revived empire.(GO INTO DESTRUCTION)

WOW! God uses one sentence to tell the whole story. Amazing and powerful!

Here comes another divine "one verse synopsis" of the same scene.

“And the beast that was and is not, he also is an eighth, and is of the seven, and goes into destruction.” Revelation 17:11

“It was” in the days of the apostle John. Remember, John was in prison because of that beast.

“And is not” this is the present condition since the Roman empire fell or was disintegrated under the northern hordes around 476AD. The first three world empires were conquered, the fourth was not. It might have suffered a deadly wound as the imperial head, then in government, lost control of the empire.
“And one of his heads [was] as slain to death, and his wound of death had been healed: and the whole earth wondered after the beast.” Revelation 13:3

The beast is always spoken “as ten horns and seven heads”. The heads are different type of government that were used during its long reign or dominion of this empire over the earth. Seven heads or type of government would characterize this empire.

After the period of “is not” it will be revived in a different character but the end is always the same “goes into destruction.”

Another amazing verse that throws light at why the dwellers of the earth are in admiration of the return of this fourth empire is the following:

“And they who dwell on the earth, whose names are not written from the founding of the world in the book of life, shall wonder, seeing the beast, that it was, and is not, and shall be present.” Revelation 17:8

There is the revival of this fourth beast that had been inflicted with a deadly wound. It was in the past, is not at present but in the future “shall be present”
This confirms the future revival of the Roman empire and its horn or prince to come.

Ten horns and seven heads:

Now., I would like to say a few words on the “seven heads” of this revived Roman empire to come.

“Here is the mind that has wisdom: The seven heads are seven mountains, whereon the woman sits. And there are seven kings: five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; and when he comes he must remain [only] a little while” Revelation 17:9-10

Two identification marks are given here.
The first is a geographical or topographical mark. The seat of government of the fourth empire when revived will be on a seven hill city. The poets of old used to identify the city of Rome as located on seven hills. No other place can take this description except Rome.

(The seven hills are: Caelian, Esquilve, Janiculan, Nierinal, Palestine, Vinaival , Wentine.) (Walter Scott, Exposition of the Revelation of Jesus Christ, chapter 17)

(Some teachers will tell us, that in Iraq, is to be the seat of power. Better bring in several bulldozers to create a seven hill city to be!!! Much more difficult, let them bring forward not heavy equipment but heavy scriptural authority.)

Now, the old seat of Roman power was in Rome and there it should return in the prophetic future. The women, the religious whore also has her seat there, but here we are looking at the civil or political power, not the religious false bride.

Now we enter into the second mark: succession of government (kings) in the Roman empire.

Five have fallen” If the word of God tells us that five governmental seats or style of government have fallen, it should suffice for faith to believe God. We do not need to go to history to confirm the mighty words of God. Straight forward, faiths accepts truth even if not understood. Thus “five are fallen”

(For those that need to turn to history and require to touch before believing, here are the past kings or form of government that the Roman empire went through. They are not concurrent but successive. “Five have fallen.”
1. Kings
2. Consuls
3. Dictators
4. Decimvir (group of 10)
5. Military tribunes

“One is “This in John days was the imperial form of government or king The Caesar line was still in action or government.

The other has not yet come” This is the seventh, yet we are told he is an eight, that is he will take on the imperial head of government but will have to share his power with 10 horns or kingdoms. This is the difference of the fourth revived Roman empire. The Roman prince will rule but he will not be alone.

“And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have not yet received a kingdom, but receive authority as kings one hour with the beast.” Revelation 17:12

One hour with the beast” is not a time frame. It simply means they reign with the beast at the same period.

This revived Roman Empire, lead by the coming Roman prince and his ten kings or kingdoms will make war with the Lamb.

” These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them.” Revelation 17:14

The western part of the Roman empire only existed under the Roman rule. The three others empires were more concentrated in the eastern part. So the West became the birthplace of Christianity and now we see at the end that the European countries that split the Roman empire during its decaying years are now for once united under a new Roman prince.

Europe was made of all these nations that broke off the Roman rule and became independent countries till this day. Europe has never been united since the fall of the fourth empire. The frail European common market has not succeeded, but in the future prophetic times of troubles, it will find a prince to come to unite them.
Once the birthplace of Christianity, they now fight against the Lamb. How dark has Christendom fallen? The lamb shall overcome them!!!

To sum up:

If the fathers of the early church and church history has proclaimed that the horn of Daniel 7 and the Beast of Revelation 13 is the antichrist, unfortunately, they erred greatly.

Throughout Scripture we have found that the horn or leader is of Roman blood. He is the future Roman prince to come (Daniel 9:26) and when he comes, ten horns will rule alongside with him.

It has been a terrible mistake to link everything to the antichrist. The latter is more a religious person not so much political as the Roman prince. Scripture should always be our true source of info.

Our next step will be to properly identify the second beast, the religious leader…

In search of the antichrist (Part 2) or is he someone else?

Our task is to identify from scripture the passages that alludes to this personage to come. As previously mentioned we will leave aside the church fathers and church history as we proceed our search. Scripture has to be our sole authority.

THE SEARCH. How to identify the future restored Roman power?

Before we proceed to identify a leader, emperor, prince or head of an empire, we must proceed to prove that such a renewal of an empire will happen. Our two main sources are the prophet Daniel and the book of Revelation.

The prophet Daniel has given us a world history account of the period called “The times of the nations” Luke 21:24 This is the period that started when Nebuchadnezzar arrived on the scene and the government of the world that was once given to Israel was now transferred to the nations. The first and new head of the nations was the king of Babylon.

Not only was he the new head in government of the earth but he was also the first new servant replacing Israel.

“And hath made thee ruler over them all: thou art this head of gold.” Dan 2:38

There is a great change of position for Israel who had always been privileged to be called “the servant of God”.

“But thou, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham, my friend” Is.41:8

The prophet Jeremiah shows clearly that Israel has now lost this privileged place of “servant of Jehovah”

“And now have I given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, my servant. “Jer.27:6

We must accept the fact that Israel is now temporary (what a long span!) out of her once privileged position has holding the throne of God on earth. Her present appellation is that prophesied by Hosea.

“And he said, Call his name Lo-ammi; for ye are not my people, and I will not be for you.” Hosea 1:9

In the government of God, Israel are no more His servants, neither are they acknowledged as His people. To think otherwise is to go against His mind. On the end of the spectrum, we have the eternal counsels of God, that will see that they are again restored as Ammi, my people. This will happen only after the great tribulation. At that period, they will cry from the dust and be restored to their place of leaders of the nations.

Now Israel has been at the tail since the destruction of the temple by the king of Babylon, the nations are at the head.

“He shall be the head, and thou shalt be the tail.” Deut. 28:4

Daniel covers this period “the times of the nations” He gives us an exact prophetic broadcast of what will happen during the Lo-Ammi period.

HISTORY: Four world empires are to arise.

“And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee; then another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth. And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron.” Dan. 2:39-40

The prophet Daniel lived to see the first two world empires, Babylon and Medo-Persian.

We, being in the year 2017 can look back into history and count the other two empires, the Greek and the Roman. When our Lord was on earth the Roman empire was in power. They made a census of the whole habitable world.

“But it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus, that a census should be made of all the habitable world.” Luke 2:1
Our fourth beast is the Roman empire.

This is our fourth beast that Daniel was so anxious to find info about.

“Then I desired to know the certainty concerning the fourth beast, which was different from them all, exceeding dreadful” Daniel 7:19

So Daniel’s attention is directed to this fourth beast and it’s leader the little horn.

First identification mark: ten horns (his helpmates)

“It was different from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.” Daniel 7:7

Second identification mark: his speech.

“I considered the horns, and behold, there came up among them another, a little horn, before which three of the first horns were plucked up by the roots; and behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking great things.” Daniel 7:8

Speaking “great things” speaks of blasphemes against God. This is recorded four times. To use such a language proves that this Roman horn fears no power from man and from God. Dan.7:8; 7:11; 7:20; 7:25

When we move to the new testament this roman horn is again identified with the same characteristic found in Daniel seven. This time it is the seer John that identifies the horn, except he has become a beast, that is a power that has no conscience as to recognize God as the supreme authority.

Again the ten horns and blasphemes or speaking great things comes in the forefront.
“And I stood upon the sand of the sea; and I saw a beast rising out of the sea, having ten horns and seven heads, and upon its horns ten diadems, and upon its heads names of blasphemy.” Revelation 13:1

The Seer is presenting us with the same personage or same horn of Daniel 7.
The ten horns are there!

And so is the language! “Names of blasphemy” 13:1; “And there was given to it a mouth, speaking great things and blasphemies” 13:5; “And it opened its mouth for blasphemies against God and blaspheme his name” 13:6

Third identification mark: his war against the saints:

The sketch continues so that we are not led astray as to the identity of this Roman horn:
“I beheld, and that horn made war with the saints, and prevailed over them.” Daniel 7:21
“And there was given to it to make war with the saints and to overcome them” Revelation 13:7

Fourth identification mark: his history.

“And the beast which I saw was like to a leopardess, and its feet as of a bear, and its mouth as a lion's mouth.” Revelation 13:2

From a Roman perspective we are going backward in history. The roman empire replaced the Greeks (leopardess), these latter replace the Persians (bear) and again these latter replaced the Chaldean (gold).

There is no doubt that this beast coming out of world turmoil ( out of the sea) has its origin from the four empires that Daniel was describing. ( for sea look up Rev. 17:15

It is like a time machine going back or retracing previous history. It is well known that the Greek culture did much for mankind. The Romans were always aware of what other world empires and culture were bringing in to mankind. They always keep that which would prove to be useful to their governing agenda.

Fifth identification mark: its source of power:

“And the dragon gave to it his power, and his throne, and great authority.” Rev. 13:2
This Roman empire and its leader or horn is again to re-appear. Of old it was God’s providential dealing that gave it the power. But now as we enter in the prophetic scene, it is the dragon or Satan that will energize the revival of the Roman empire and its horn or emperor or prince to come. (the people (the Roman people that destroyed Jerusalem in 70 A.D under Titus)) of the prince to come.) Daniel 9:26

In this chapter 13 of Revelation, this Roman prince to come has now entered the scene. This time it is not pure imperial power, it is diluted power since this Roman prince will have to share his power with ten horns or kings.

Yet his speech of blasphemies and hatred for the saints (Jewish people) has not changed. Only his power is no more imperial as were his father’s, the Caesars!
I could rest my case here and pronounce that the ruler of this future Roman empire is of Roman blood and not of Jewish blood. But let us pursue farther in the word of God…

In search of the antichrist (Part 1)or is it someone else?

For years, I have searched to the identity of this personage. My problem has never been who he is but the search is where in scripture can I truthfully pinpoint this blasphemer. The emphasis is on truthfully.

For years, the writer W.K.* (William Kelly, Lectures on Revelation) once wrote that he had been perplexed with chapter 7 of the said book, until he understood that it was a parenthesis in the governmental dealing of God. The purpose of such a parenthesis was an eye opener: it showed how God in mercy was going to act toward the Jews, the sealing of a godly remnant in the 12 tribes represented under the figure of 144,000 and then a crowd of nations saints saved under the preaching of the gospel of the Kingdom. (the King is coming.) How blessed to see that if the elect of Israel were numbered or accounted, those of the nations “which no one could number “and “who come out of the great tribulation.” Rev. 7: 9, 1

W.K. proceeds to explain that there are three such parenthesis in the book of Revelation; one after the sixth seal, one after the sixth trumpet and finally, one smaller one after the sixth bowl.

I relate this story because of late, I questioned certain Christian leaders who are prolific writers as to prophetic questions, why they would identify or endorse the leader of the first beast coming out of the sea (revised Roman empire, Rev 13:1-10) to be the person of the antichrist.

*Here is what was gathered:

Two reasons are given why the beast in Daniel and Revelation is called the Antichrist:
1.The early church began to use that term. (church fathers, the era after the apostle left the scene.)
2.Church history continued that teaching.

Can we trust those sources?

First of all, these two sources of identification are human, not God breathe. (inspiration of Scripture) 2 Tim 3:16
The early church fathers were God fearing men and many laid their life in testimony to Christ. Yet, many strange things came out of their pen… These early brethren living in the time of the Roman empire used to pray for the Empire because they taught that the latter was the restraining force “and now ye know that which restrains.” 2 Thes. 2:6 Of course that proved to be wrong and simply shows that their discernment was obstructed. (In their favor, it is always good to pray and submit to authorities that be. Rom.13:1

The other source of identification has a wooden leg. Church history has not always upheld a good standing as we read the prophetic outline given of Church history in Revelation 2& 3.

Have we not a better method of identification.

Of course we have. God has not left us orphan as to the knowledge of truth. The apostolic forerunners left us the greatest “litmus test” What says Scripture!
The greatest deposit of truth and its outline are to be found in a God given source not a human source. The departing apostle Paul did not recommend the Ephesian elders to the future coming church enlightment, neither to the future church history.

Here are his inspired words “And now I commit you to God, and the word of his grace.” Acts 20:32

We must test all saying of men. The spirit of the Berean was praised by its own speaker or revealer since the habit was to see if what Paul was teaching was scriptural. We praise such men that trust no man but God. “daily searching the scriptures if these things were so.”

What a lesson from these early believers. Are we to walk away and accept tradition as the standard of truth. God forbids!

I come from a roman catholic background that taught us that without the catholic teaching or church there was no truth! Truth is not in a church or denomination but truth is in the word. The church is called to display truth and be a model, “a pillar and base of truth.” 1 Tim.3:15. Unfortunately, this “house of God” has shifted to “a great house” 2 Tim. 2:20.

Truth is not to be gathered from the evolution of church history to a great house but from that which is firm and changes not “the living word of God “

The challenge.

So the challenge to my precious reader is this “Are you willing to have a single eye, focussed on Christ and be patiently lead by his prophetic Spirit to a proper identification of the one which is named “the antichrist”. We all know that this individual is against Christ but scripture is careful to remind us in exact words that he does not deny that there is a Christ, he denies that Jesus is the Christ!!!

Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ.” 1 John 2:22

To be followed…

The two FF of prophetic outline
.
Of course it does not stand for Fast Forward, although prophecy is God’s way of moving forward in time.

Prophecy has to do with Christ’s kingdom to be established on earth.

As things went wrong with his earthly people, Israel, God provided the voice of the prophet to correct the situation and as things did not get corrected, He moved to the future restoration of all things under the headship of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Assembly or Church is never the object of prophecy because its true calling is not the earth but the heavenlies with Christ:
Ephesians 1:3-4 (DARBY)
3 Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenlies in Christ; according as he has chosen us in him before [the] world's foundation.

Notice our calling is before the foundation of the world!! The earthly people is from the foundation of the world.

AMOS 3:2 speaking of Israel says “You only, have I known of all the families of the earth”

So properly speaking prophecy is for the earth and the earthly people.

The Lord in his goodness calls us friends. John 15:15. The heavenly or Christian company has a privileged access to information that even the Jews cannot understand and phantom. Secrets are revealed to friends!

Peter, in his first epistle concludes “searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ which [was] in them pointed out, testifying before of the sufferings which [belonged] to Christ, and the glories after these.
12 To whom it was revealed, that not to themselves but to you they ministered those things, which have now been announced to you by those who have declared to you the glad tidings by [the] Holy Spirit, sent from heaven, which angels desire to look into.” 1 Peter 1:11-12

Notice this headline: the suffering of Christ and the glories of Christ. The past suffering of Messiah and the future kingdom of Messiah are revealed to us. Prophecy is our lamp in a dark place. 2 Peter 1:19

Now to the two FF. Prophecy stands on this double footing. FACT and FUTURE!

The prophets address the fact or status of the earthly people. It is to reach the conscience and turn their behavior around. If that does not work, Jehovah turns to the future.

Let me illustrate with one sample dealing, the prophet Joel.
In the opening verses we deal with a fact:

Joel 1:2-4 Darby Translation
2 Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers? Tell your children of it, and [let] your children [tell] their children, and their children another generation: that which the palmer-worm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpillar eaten.

The fact was a great, great famine! Never seen or heard in the land of Israel. This fact or historical occurrence should have mightily awakened consciences. Unfortunately, this unique disaster produced little effect in their moral life’s.

Leaving this live fact behind, prophecy moves ahead in time. It indicates a greater output of anger than any famine could foretell.
It is call “the day of the Lord” In Joel’s three chapters it is mentioned 5 times. This part says it best: “a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and gross darkness.”

It is the judgment of all nations starting with apostate Israel. It is the judgment of the quick (Math 25:31); those of the dead will wait after the Kingdom. (Rev. 20:12)

The famine (the fact) was a miniature outburst of the Day of the Lord. (the future)

The question begs “What is the alpha and omega of the day of the Lord?”

Firstly, the day is not a day. It is a period that embraces dealing preparatory to the Kingdom, throughout the Kingdom and after the Kingdom, including the great white throne of Revelation.

It will not start as long as the Church occupies a heavenly testimony on earth. Once the rapture takes place then starts the prophetic clock .The omega is the great white throne.

Eventually, some day we will (D.V.) do a few posts on “Musing on the book of Joel”

For now, the emphasis is on the FF of prophetic outline. Always try to discern what the fact was about or is and then see what future event or events can be opened to our understanding.

Thus goes the Spirit of Prophecy.

Getting our heads wrapped around the Daniel 7:7 Beast
Regardless of who or what we have come to believe about the Daniel 7:7 Beast, there is something that is inescapable about it. All of its individual components are all mentioned in the previous verses 4-6. This is much more evidence that 7:7 Beast is indeed a 'conglomeration" of the previous verses, and therefore disqualifying it from many a prophetic theory.
They have based their entire belief system on this theory and it is where much of the Revived Holy Roman Empire and the Pope theory originated.
Guys this is a fool proof, common sense approach to it and it needs to be the catylist for understanding the rest of chapter 7's vision, and then ch's 8-12 to follow because the majority of it is what chapter 7 is reflecting.
 All the vital components of the dreadful and terrible Beast of verse 7;
According to verse 8; "...it had great iron teeth:...", "...and stamped the residue with the feet of it:...", "...and it had ten horns." V.19 "...and his nails of brass"
It's Iron teeth are from the Lion in verse 4, it's Feet is from the Bear in verse 5, it's Brass claws are from the Leopard in verse 6 and its ten horns are the "Feathers" that is being plucked from the eagles wings in verse 4. (Kings that are being uprooted or dethroned)
Now that you have that under the ole' belt, match up the Horses of the Apocalypse with those same 4 Beasts and you'll see how the story keeps on going...
God bless you my Friends :-)
