The sickness of Hezekiah. 2 Kings 20 :12 (Part 1)

Tell me “Where the Babylonians really interested in the sickness of the king of Judah or was there a more profound reason?”

Is this passage a simple historic fact or are we to get a great typical lesson for the future. I have absolutely no doubt that God does not give historical account or happenings for the simple reason of human interest.

Partial happenings or judgments are to be looked into. We certainly get the historical content or a part of it but the Spirit of prophecy desires to entertain us of final events about to come to this earth. Prophecy is of no private interpretation, we need to look at the whole schema of God’s mind and how Christ’s kingdom is to be established on earth.

Hezekiah’s sickness brings in two great world powers contending as to who will control this world. The emporium of might rests within the introduction of these two great world power being the Assyria and Babylon.

“At that time Berodach-Baladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent a letter and a present to Hezekiah, for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick.” 2 Kings 20:12

“This is the word that Jehovah has spoken against him: The virgin-daughter of Zion despiseth thee, laugheth thee to scorn; The daughter of Jerusalem shaketh her head at thee.” 2 Kings 19:21

“Because thy raging against me and thine arrogance is come up into mine ears, I will put my ring in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, And I will make thee go back by the way by which thou camest.” 2 Kings 19:28

In this 19th chapter we have an attempt of Assyria to conquer Jerusalem. Other fortified cities of Judah had fallen under his swinging hand but the “virgin-daughter of Zion” was not his to enter in and defile. Jehovah had allowed other cities to be tread down but not Jerusalem. God was in sovereign control. He had used the Assyrian for his own purpose but Jerusalem was “Hands off” for now and would not be a ruinous heap.

“Hast thou not heard long ago that I have done it? And that from ancient days I formed it? Now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest lay waste fortified cities [into] ruinous heaps.” 2 Kings 19:25

So this great national power of Assyria was not allowed to touch Jerusalem. In one night the angel of the Lord killed 185,000 men and Sennacherib, king of Assyria returned to Nineveh to be murdered by his two sons. (2 Kings 19:35-37)
In history, the Assyrian did not enter the city of Jerusalem, did not shoot any arrow nor raise a shield against it, nor cast a bank against it.

‘Therefore thus saith Jehovah concerning the king of Assyria: He shall not come into this city, Nor shoot an arrow there, Nor come before it with shield, Nor cast a bank against it. By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, And shall not come into this city, saith Jehovah. And I will defend this city, to save it, For mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.” 2 Kings 19:32-34

In prophecy, we read that Jerusalem will be again attacked by the future prophetic Assyrian, being to-day the Muslim countries of the eastern -northern areas north of Israel .( Its Assyrian leader is yet to be established as such)
Here is the eastern attack on Jerusalem, (on this futurist occasion, the daughter of Sion it will be seized.)

”And I will assemble all the nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity; and the rest of the people shall not be cut off from the city.” Zachariah 14:2

This is a scene coming up against Jerusalem. Our eyes are not to be directed by the present well being of Israel presently prosperous and boastful. Not present circumstances or sight can answer to this prophecy but the vision is to pass and faith is taught to trust Scripture.

’’For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but it hasteth to the end, and shall not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; for it will surely come, it will not delay.” Habakkuk 2:3

By faith we are called to walk and wait. Surely Zachariah has not spoken in vain, the houses rifled, and the women ravished and half the city to go in captivity. The Assyrian of old did not enter the city of Jerusalem but the prophetic Assyrian will do just that.

If one verse is not sufficient for this drama to be painted vividly for our understanding let us proceed to another passage in Isaiah. Actually it is three whole chapters dedicated to this Assyrian episode.

For years I have questioned why Isaiah retells this episode of the encounter of the Assyrian with Hezekiah. Why repeat 2 Kings 19 and 20 in the book of the prophet. Why three chapters recall this exact period in Isaiah 36,37 and 38? The answer my friends is not in the wind but in the details of the holy wriths.
The repetition is there for a reason. To enforce in our mind, the contrast between that which of old happened during the period of historical Assyria and “that day” to come when the Assyrian enters the last phase of his prophetic conduct.

Let us proceed to this last phase in Isaiah 29:1-8
We are being taught that Ariel (the Lion of God, Jerusalem) will be encamped by a multitude of nations. Of old, it was the Assyrian invasion of Jerusalem which if you recall no arrows, no swords and no terraces were laid against the virgin of Sion.

In this prophetic chapter, we have Ariel in a completely reversed order. This time the Spirit of prophecy describes the last attack of the Assyrian community (now the Muslim community or confederation).

“And I will camp against thee round about, and will lay siege against thee with watch-posts, and I will raise forts against thee.” Isaiah 29:3

Do you see the difference? This type the Assyrian nations will actually encamp all around Jerusalem, they will this time proceed successfully to raise siege and raise forts against Ariel. Half the city is to be taken over and the women ravished as per the prophetic utterance of Zachariah 14:2

Another prophet takes on the future events over Ariel. Listen to these prophetic times to come:

“And this [man](MESSIAH) shall be Peace. When the Assyrian shall come into our land, and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight princes of men.
And they shall waste the land of Asshur with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof; and he shall deliver [us] from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.” Micah 5:5-6

The Assyrian, (this north-eastern confederation of Muslim communities) is again to appear in the latter days of prophecy. This new entity of old envy is to be reproduced in this coming generation) is seen coming into our land, he is seen treading the palaces or wealthy abodes of Jews in Jerusalem. This prophetic Assyrian in contrast with the historic Assyrian will come into our land and he shall treadeth within our borders.

We read what happens next to Ariel (Jerusalem)
“And thou shalt be brought low, thou shalt speak out of the ground, and thy speech shall come low out of the dust, and thy voice shall be as of one that hath a familiar spirit, out of the ground, and thy speech shall whisper out of the dust.” Isaiah 29:4

The godly remnant such as the Annes, Simeons, Marys , Josephs seen in the early chapters of the gospel of Luke will be brought low and from the dust of utter despair and humiliation and finally under this Assyrian attack cry out to God. At this point this godly remnant turns to Jehovah
This great turning point is witness by Zachariah.
“And I will pour upon the house of David and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem the spirit of grace and of supplications; and they shall look on me whom they pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for an only [son], and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for [his] firstborn.1 In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadad-rimmon in the valley of Megiddon. And the land shall mourn, every family apart.” Zach.12:10-12

I would like to stress that this spirit of supplication is not brought about by the activities of the Antichrist and his political acolyte the Beast (the revived Roman empire). The BREAKING POINT is the future Assyrian attack composed of Muslims confederation pouring for the last time over the beloved city of Jerusalem.

The closing type of Assyria is not the historical sketch of 2 Kings 19-20, nor the repeated essay of the same period by Isaiah 36-39 to recall the importance of that first enemy over Israel. No, it is Isaiah 29:1-9, the prophetic sack over Ariel, the Lion of God.

The new Assyrian communities or confederations will think like the predecessor Sennacherib who originally thought that the capture of Jerusalem was an easy prey!

This new Assyrian confederation made up of a multitude of all nations thinks likewise to anile this easy prey. But it is a bad dream or night vision at the end. They wake up after a lavish eatery feast still hungry and still in thirst.

“And the multitude of all the nations that war against Ariel, even all that war against her and her fortifications, and that distress her, shall be as a dream of a night vision. It shall even be as when the hungry dreameth, and, behold, he eateth; and he awaketh, and his soul is empty; or as when the thirsty dreameth, and, behold, he drinketh; and he awaketh, and, behold, he is faint, and his soul craveth: so shall the multitude of all the nations be that war against mount Zion.” Isaiah 29:7-8

This takes care of this great power “The Assyrian power” waging war of evil thoughts against Israel.

Now the sickness of Hezekiah (2 Kings 20:12) did bring about another world power in the prophetic scene: Babylon.

In our next post, we will see that the interest was not the sickness of the king in Jerusalem but the Babylonians were great astronomers and the ten degree return on the clock interested them and led them to Jerusalem. The conquest of this city obviously became Jerusalem when they with the Medes took over Assyria.

This generation! What generation?

If I listen to teachers like Amir Tsarfati who testifies that it is the 1948 generation. This was the year that Israel was granted a return to the land. I was born in 1948, and seventy years are gone by. Was the Lord Jesus speaking of a time frame (like years or span of a generation) or was He referring to the character of a generation.

We must always learn from Scripture and our understanding must come from Scripture. If this principle is not engraved in our hearts, one is prone to err to sayings of men.

“Thus also ye, when ye see all these things, know that it is near, at the doors. Verily I say to you, This generation will not have passed away until all these things shall have taken place.” Matthew 24:33-34 Darby Translation

When “ye see all these things” and “until all these things shall have taken place.” What things is the Lord taking about? Is he talking of a single event like we are told? The 1948 event?

“All these things” is not a single event although it encompasses the 1948 event. “All these things” is a series of events coming to fruition with the end of the period known in Scripture as “the times of the nations be fulfilled.”

“And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and be led captive into all the nations; and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of [the] nations until [the] times of [the] nations be fulfilled.” Luke 21:24

Jerusalem is to be trodden down and “This generation” is not to pass away until we reach the period that the nations will no more dominate over Jerusalem and the Jews. When the dominion of the nations ceases Jehovah is in control and the captain of their salvation.

To understand “this generation” let us reverse the wording of this verse in Mathew 24
“Until all these things shall have taken place this generation will not have passed away”

“Until “ is a key word. In prophecy it is often used and refers to a future period. I call this a “prophetic jump” It is a period in the future not yet accomplished but which will be accomplished in due time.

Until all these things have taken place i.e the end of dominion of the nations, this generation will not have passed away. In no way can we say that this is a reference to the longevity of a person or a generation.

So what is the Lord saying? Is he not talking about the moral traits of a wicked generation that he encountered while in grace ministering to the Jews. In the future is this Christ hating generation pass away. It will still be there reproducing the same evil characteristics against Jehovah, no mater how many generations may lay ahead until the nations are subdued to the reign of Christ.

Here is how Scripture sees a generation.

“And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be; For they are a perverse generation, Children in whom is no faithfulness.
21 They have moved me to jealousy with that which is no God; They have exasperated me with their vanities; And I will move them to jealousy with that which is not a people; With a foolish nation will I provoke them to anger.” Deuteronomy 32:20-21

Is not this character or traits of a generation found when Messiah appeared in grace. When he re-appears in glory this generation or children in whom is no faithfulness will still be around. They will do worst than the fathers and will worship a false Christ. This Christ rejecting generation is still around for more than 2000 years and counting. So let us forget this teaching of the 1948 generation.

The following is a quote from the Psalms and will illustrate what type of generation the Lord is looking for:

"A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation." Psalm 22:30 Darby Translation

This seed of faithfulness and God honouring generation will succeed the wicked one found in Mathew 24:34.

Those generations that followed Psalm 22 were stiff necked generations and 1948 was no different. It is still the same generation to this day.

Since Calvary, God has been calling out a people for His name. This heavenly company is taken from the nations and individual Jews join the Assembly when Christ is acknowledged as the Savior.

The Assembly, the true bride will soon answer the call to the Father’s house to be with the Bridegroom. Then and only then will Messiah’s activity be toward His earthy people. When the true Joseph gathers his rebellious brethren “a seed shall serve him, it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation. “

“And Joseph could not control himself before all them that stood by him, and he cried, Put every man out from me! And no man stood with him when Joseph made himself known to his brethren. And he raised his voice in weeping; and the Egyptians heard, and the house of Pharaoh heard.” Genesis 45:1-2

I find it sorrowful, that brethren should shortchange the Spirit of prophecy and not discern that the 1948 was an apostate generation, a Christ rejecting generation. This stiff necked generation that left Joseph in the well will be completely replaced by the new seed generation; THE LOVERS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS.

No man stood with him when Joseph made himself known to a new seed generation and in weeping Christ receives them.

With love,

Q&A 1948, Ezekiel 36 and idolatry: a follow up…

We must bear in mind that idolatry is to return to Israel. In our days we do not see idolatry as set up. (not yet seen.(

Surely Scripture will stand to attest to the importance of this statement that we must not lose sight of.

Not only that old testament scriptures speak of this coming period for the people of Israel but the Lord himself has born testimony to this coming era.

Matthew 12:43-45 Darby Translation
43 “But when the unclean spirit has gone out of the man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and does not find [it].
44 Then he says, I will return to my house whence I came out; and having come, he finds [it] unoccupied, swept, and adorned.
45 Then he goes and takes with himself seven other spirits worse than himself, and entering in, they dwell there; and the last condition of that man becomes worse than the first. Thus shall it be to this wicked generation also. »

The « unclean spirit » is idolatry returning when Israel in unbelief occupies the land. This of course was accomplished in 1948. The Jews have not yet embraced idolatry but will do so eventually.

Presently, they are under the prophetic umbrella of Hosea 3:4
“ For the children of Israel shall abide many days without king, and without prince, and without sacrifice, and without statue, and without ephod and teraphim.”

This is quite a statement! The “many days” started after the destruction of the temple and the exile to the land of Babylon. Several millennials have not altered this statement by the prophet Hosea.

Without king, without prince.
Presently, even since 1948, there is no king in Israel and surely no prince in view.! THIS PROPHECY IS STILL ALIVE.

Without sacrifice.
That is to say there are no burnt or sin offerings on the altar since there is no temple and of course no altar. To this day, they cannot offer sacrifice.

Without statue.
This tells us they are no more idolatrous. This is true today. Israel are in unbelief identified with their land, yet, not return to idolatry like of old. Jehovah’s reasoning was something like this “I had chosen you of all nations to be a witness of the one true God. You have done worst than the unclean nations bowing before every tree of false gods. Therefore, I will have the worst idolatrous nation known in history, Babylon, to bring you to their land and there you will remain for 70 years and see what idolatry is until you throw up.
Under Ezra and Nehemiah, a remnant has returned. They have been freed of idolatry. When our blessed Lord was in their midst, he solemnly declared that the house was unoccupied, swept and adorned. Yes, we are witnessing that they are without statue! But not for long…

Without ephod.
This speaks of Aaron’s priesthood. The ephod has to do with the priests and their sanctuary service to the Lord. As yet, they have no priesthood to altar.. no temple…

Without teraphim

My understanding is that these items were used as gods and for divination. They were seeked for oracular answers by Israelites.

Zachariah 10:2 reads “For the teraphim have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams: they comfort in vain.”

In other words, they have no idolatrous communication for now but they will turn to it at a future day.

Who can object that this portait is still the Israel of 2018! What a true picture by Hosea. Who can doubt the prophetic word, God has spoken before hand. This is the value of prophecy!!! To know before things, happen!!!

So the true prophet, our Lord Jesus Christ goes much farther. He opens up the passage of the house swept clean but to be at a later date in a worst condition of idolatry then the fathers were. Seven fold worst!!! This generation of Jews today will by far exceed the fathers in idolatry. This will be their last condition to be found when the Glory returns to Jerusalem. These are the words of the Lord!
Let us now turn to the Old Testament and see how the prophetic word concurs with this last condition to invade the Jewish people. One verse should suffice for faith

After a short essay as to the future condition of Israel going to every mountain top, enlarging their bed and committing adultery or idolatry with every nation we read this sentence in Isaiah 57:9 “And thou wentest to the king with ointment, and didst multiply thy perfumes, and didst send thy messengers afar off, and didst debase thyself unto Sheol.”

Who is this king? Surely not Messiah. No, it is the false king, false Messiah, better known to Christians as the Antichrist.

Ointment and perfumes are multiplied to this false messiah sitting as king and eventually in the temple proclaiming himself God. The Jews have turned idolatrous and have debased themselves to Sheol. The cleansed house has returned to idolatry and are worshipping he that came in his own name! The man of sin reigns as king in Israel and ointments and perfumes at his feet.

Now, you ask me the timeline when this will take place?

First, the Jews are returned in unbelief since 1948.

The true bride of Christ is to be raptured at any moment. She being heavenly will leave this scene caught up to be with Christ. Then the prophetic clock resumes and God deals with his earthly people, Israel.

Secondly, Israel has to turn to idolatry. Then Ezekiel 36 with the sprinkling of clean water and a new heart is to be given. “And I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your uncleannesses and from all your idols will I cleanse you.” 36:25

Notice the wording and the timing zone “From all your IDOLS, will I clean you”
Ezekiel 36 takes place after the Jews have left their time of “no images or no idol” to the time when sevenfold idolatry is established under the Antichrist, their newly appointed king.

It is not the return in unbelief (which I call 1948) but it is the return to idolatry that produces or opens the way of grace and the pouring of clean waters.
To bring to fruition the moral cleansing of Ezekiel 36 is not the return of 1948 to the land but the return to idolatry.

It is salutary to our spiritual understanding that not circumstances of providential dealing on the part of God (ei the return in unbelief of 1948) is to guide us but the word of God is always for faith to lay hold of.

“From your idols, will I cleanse you.” cannot be 1948 nor 2018. Israel in 2018 is still in the Hosea stage “For many days…without king, prince, sacrifice and without statue, ephod and teraphim.”

The question asked was is 1948 the accomplishment of Ezekiel 36?

It is a memorable date. (I was born that year!!!)

Seriously, 14 May 1948 is the year of Declaration of the Establishment of the State of Israel. The wording “State” is of great consequence.

In the late 19th century many conferences for a Jewish homeland were held across the world. This was known as the Zionist movement.

The British foreign secretary, Lord Balfour issue a declaration in 1917 that provided the groundwork for a Jewish homeland.
“His majesty’s government view with favor the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people…” The Balfour declaration 1917

Notice that much care was taken to deliberately not use the word STATE, but the word HOMELAND was purposely used! 1917 was a homeland,1948 was a state.

Further more, the text of 1917 avoided committing the entirety of Palestine as the National home of the Jewish people. The wording is “in Palestine” rather than “of Palestine” This reading created all type of controversy since a National home in Palestine is not the erection of a Jewish State.

So, finally on 14 May 1948 a STATE came into being: The State of Israel.
The question is weather this date is the accomplishment of Ezekiel 36-37 which speaks of a renewing of a nation, a quickening of a nation.

Scripture abundantly speaks of a return to the promised land, but in unbelief, not in a regenerated state.

In the Providence of God, the Jewish people need to be in the land at a certain time. Otherwise how could the apostate nation claim allegiance to a false Messiah with worship in the temple. This all needs to be in Jerusalem.
Historically, the same Providence of God allowed a remnant to return from Babylon’s captivity, to rebuild the temple and then allowance was made for the lowly Messiah to come and be rejected via the cross of Calvary.

The Lord Jesus is the heir of a future kingdom that will have its head office in Jerusalem. A Jewish people and a temple must be there for these future events to take place.

At present, for the last 70 years (opps! that my age) there is a Jewish state, a Jewish people… but no temple yet! My generation has seen gigantic happening that brethren of the last century could only speak of an apostate return to the land. Mine eyes have seen it but how are we to evaluate the 1948 question.
Beloved readers, we need to get the mind of God. Trust in Scripture and not circumstances are the walk of faith.

Before we proceed to trumpet out that 1948 is the same as Ezekiel 36 and 37 we should proceed to look at these two chapters.

Ezekiel 36 presents to us a prophetic outline of a moral renewing of the Jewish people in order that they may judge their ways.
Ezekiel 36:25-27 Darby Translation
25 And I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your uncleannesses and from all your idols will I cleanse you.
26 And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.
27 And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and keep mine ordinances, and ye shall do them.

1948 was a return to the land. It was an apostate return, a patriotic recovery of their ancestor’s land (a wee portion of the land) No “sprinkle clean water” was ever applied in 1948 “A new heart and a new spirit” was never applied. “My Spirit within you” was never applied.

This is certainly not Ezekiel 36, a direct intervention of the Almighty but a provincial dealing of God to have the people in the land. They are there in unbelief not with a “sprinkle clean water” acting on their moral ways.
1948 was never a return to Jehovah. They are to this day rejecters of Christ with annual gay parade in Tel Aviv.

Since their return from Babylon, Israel has been free of any idolatry. The house has been swept clean, unoccupied and adorned! (Math 12:44)
But prophecy tells us that this will change and they will return to idolatry with seven more wicked spirits being greater idolatrous then their forefather and honouring a false Christ at the temple. Math 12:45)

This is what Isaiah is mentioning.
Isaiah 57:9 Darby Translation
9 And thou wentest to the king with ointment, and didst multiply thy perfumes, and didst send thy messengers afar off, and didst debase thyself unto Sheol.
The king here mentioned is the Antichrist. The returned apostate Jews are in complete idolatry. The “sprinkle water” is to be applied at that period not in 1948. “And I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your uncleannesses and from all your idols will I cleanse you.”

In 1948, they were still a rebellious people but not in IDOLATRY! We cannot say that the year of the return to the land is an accomplishment of Ezekiel 36. It is an accomplishment of multitude of prophecies that declare that Israel must return in unbelief. We need to wait for Antichrist to appear, then idolatry, then the sprinkling, then the new heart…

Then follows Ezekiel 37 which encompasses a restauration and a national quickening. The national resuscitation is not to happen by world politics or a Balfour declaration.

God’s providential activities might bring the dry bones together (the gathering of apostate Jews) but Ezekiel’s comment is quite in line when he says “Behold, they were very dry.” 37:2

Why are they “very dry”.
“And I looked, and behold, sinews and flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them over; but there was no breath in them.” 38:8 hen there is no breath, it is a corpse. The breath of divine life needs to be applied.
“And the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.” (38:10) Breath, or resurrection, as a figure of life is given nationally to Israel.

Having had an overlook of Ez. 36 as a moral renewing of Israel and Ez. 37 as a restauration and national quickening not by policies or politics of this world but by the breath of God, we may conclude that to incense 1948 as accomplishment of Ezekiel 36 & 37 is to forsake the mind of Scripture. Both await a full accomplishment of the latter days.

Suffice to say, that 1948 is a return in unbelief to the land as so often foretold. To put a hallow and a “WOW!” over this apostate nation is premature, and has been for the last 70 years and counting…

This is not anti-Jewish, it is simply putting the prophetic clock in true perspective. We need, beloved friends and brethren to seek the mind of God and not be led by political circumstances, but walk by faith, trusting that God has given us abundant light.

Q&A The question basically is the difference in judgment for the two tribes (known as Jews) and ten tribes (known as Ephraim)?

In the new testament language, we read “no difference” since all have sinned, (Israel and Gentiles) all guilty! (Roman 3:22)

When we look at the divine judgments to be applied “there is a difference” in intensity. The principle is the following from our Lord’s lips:

Luke 12:47-48 Darby Translation
47 But that bondman who knew his own lord's will, and had not prepared [himself] nor done his will, shall be beaten with many [stripes];
48 but he who knew [it] not, and did things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few. And to every one to whom much has been given, much shall be required from him; and to whom [men] have committed much, they will ask from him the more.

Here then is the synopsis of this principle: With privilege comes responsibility. The more one knows, the more responsible he is.

Now let us apply this to the 10 tribes (Ephraim or northern kingdom) and to the Jews (southern kingdom or the two tribes of Benjamin and Juda)

Their privilege
Israel or the sum being the 12 tribes were a chosen people and to confess the only true God Jehovah and make known His ways.

Their failure: the ten tribes.
Eventually both the 10 tribes and the two tribes failed. After the fall of the ten tribes. (Ephraim); Juda was faithful for about 100 more years.

The 10 tribes having torn or rendered apart the unity of the house of David fell under the judgment of the great city of Nineveh, the capital of the Assyrian, located on the Tigris river. Their sin was idolatry. For this the ten tribes were scattered in the North (Afghanistan territory and much more.) For that sin, they are there to this day. ” Israel (10 tribes or Ephraim) was carried away out of their own land to Assyria, unto this day. (2 Kings 17:23) They are still there today and even farther, yet they know not that they are Israelites. Remember idolatry was their sin!

Their failure: the two tribes.
For over one hundred years Benjamin and Juda remained faithful but with time they did worst then their sister Samaria. (another name for the 10 tribes, this time distinguished by geography.)

This time another type of enemy came in to chastise. The Chaldean or Babylon was the instrument of correction. The temple was destroyed and the two remaining tribes hurried to Babylon where they remained captive for 70 years. They were also idolatrous but a greater sin was in the horizon…

Under the leadership of Ezra and Nehemiah a small portion of the two tribes of Jews returned to Jerusalem and with time the temple was rebuilt. Then a few more hundred years and Emmanuel was presented to them in all beauty and humility. “Away with Him” as they ushered Him to Calvary.

Since their return from the kingdom of Babylonian idolatry, they had successfully kept the house clean of that sin but they added a far more serious sin: the rejection and death of Messiah. Remember, death of Messiah, this was their sin.

Their retribution in judgment: the ten tribes.
The ten tribes are not responsible for the crucifixion of the Lord Jesus. They were not in the land but scattered and lost to the world at large. Less stripes will be attributed to them.

Their judgment will fall, not in the land of Israel but in the desert or wilderness of the peoples. There the rebels will be dealt with as the Lord enters in judgment with them face to face. After the purging, then they shall enter into the land of promise.

Ezekiel 20:34-38 Darby Translation (DARBY)
34 And I will bring you out from the peoples, and will gather you out of the countries wherein ye are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out;
35 and I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there will I enter into judgment with you face to face.
36 Like as I entered into judgment with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I enter into judgment with you, saith the Lord Jehovah.
37 And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant.
38 And I will purge out from among you the rebels, and them that transgress against me; I will bring them forth out of the country where they sojourn, but they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and ye shall know that I [am] Jehovah.

They will not be in Jerusalem during Jacob’s trouble or the great tribulation. This is reserved for those that said “Let His blood be on ourselves and our children”

Their retribution in judgment: the two tribes.
The two tribes being more responsible will receive more stripes. God in judgment is righteous.

Being responsible for the death of Christ they are found in Jerusalem and Juda. They are in unbelief in the land and their present prosperity is to be blown over. The great tribulation will make them lose their self righteousness. Neither the Antichrist nor the political Roman beast will tame them but when the Assyrian of old (today all Muslims territory) enters in and seizes half of Jerusalem and the women raped…

Zechariah 14:2 Darby Translation (DARBY)
2 And I will assemble all the nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity; and the rest of the people shall not be cut off from the city.

Then and only then will they look up to the crucified and acknowledge their crime. The strange work of God (anger instead of mercy) will be completed and re-united will be the 10 tribes and the 2 tribes.

Both of them had followed the same path “And I saw that she was defiled: both took one way.” Ez. 23:13
“And their names were Oholah the elder, and Oholibah her sister; and they were mine, and they bore sons and daughters. As for their names: Samaria is Oholah (ten tribes), and Jerusalem Oholibah. (two tribes or Jews) Ez. 23:4

Those in the land of Judah will have suffered much and their numbers deleted by hardship and betrayal of their false king. When they finally raise their eyes and see a multitude added to them…
21 And thou shalt say in thy heart, who hath borne me these, seeing I had lost my children and was desolate, an exile, and driven about? and who hath brought up these? behold, I was left alone; these, where were they? Is.49:21
This is the return of the lost ten tribes!!!

I trust this will answer your query and help to understand the difference in the judgment of Samaria (ten tribes) and Jerusalem (two tribes) The intensity of judgment is always in relationship to our privilege.

P.S As to the 2rd question regarding the nations of old around Israel (Moab, Ammon, Edom etc.) who are they to-day, what new names? Geography and territories do change with time but same hatred to the Jews is found in the children. A new post will come shortly.

The Assyrian, this unknown prophetic player!

There is abounded scripture that reveals to us that the Assyrian (historic player) will be the last enemy to fall. In history he was the first to attack when the people of Israel were still called “My servant” , “My people” (Ammi) .The people were still recognized and the throne of God was still manifestly in Jerusalem.
When Israel was still accepted as “My people” then this enemy rose and conquered the 10 tribes known as Ephraim or Northern tribes. They were deported in the Afghanistan territory and further north. The ten tribes are there till this day “Israel was carried away out of their own land to Assyria, UNTO THIS DAY” 2 Kings 17:23

This is history. This type of historic activity often serves the Spirit of prophecy to bring us to the later day events. Prophetic scripture cannot be limited to a single event and is of no particular interpretation. We must look ahead to God’s counsel in Christ. After all God knowns the end from the beginning.
In later day events, often referred as “in the last days” will bring forward many enemies of old. Each is to find his judgment in what Isaiah calls “The burden of……….” Isaiah pronounces 10 of these burdens. It is under estimating God’s foreknowledge if we only accept the historic aspect. Prophecy stretches over span of time and sometimes as far as millennials.

In prophetic chronology we pass over the coming judgment of the Beast (revived Roman empire to re-appear) then pass beyond the Antichrist. Both these to be thrown alive into the like of fire. “And the Beast and the False prophet…alive were both cast into the lake of fire” Rev.19:20

These two major prophetic players being out of the way will give rise to the extravagance of the king of the North, know as the Assyrian. They are nowadays the northern countries of Israel, Muslim advocate kingdoms who want to take over the Jews and the land. NOTHING as changed, the children of the old Assyrian politic has not an iota changed: Let us push Israel to the Mediterranean Sea.

Ammon, Edom, Moab, Philistia, Ishmaelite … proclaim “Let us cut them off of being a nation” Psalm 83:4 “Asshur (Assyria, Assyrian) is joined after them, they are in arms with the sons of Lot.” 83:8

There we get the mention of Assyria. He mainly comes to the surface when the political Beast and religious beast, Antichrist are destroyed. This is the specific prophetic moment or acknowledgement that Israel has now lost its title of “Lo-Ammi- not my people” This has been written on her forehead when the Chaldean power, under Nebuchadnezzar destroyed Jerusalem and brought the last two tribes to Babylon. This long lasting period has been coined by the apostle Luke as the “times of the nations” 21:24.

Of old Assyria’s politic of annihilation of Israel came in when the people were still recognized as His people. (Ammi, expression taken from Hosea 1:9 & 2:23) This title in the government of God was washed away when the temple was destroyed under Babylon. In the counsel of God, Israel is to take back this title Ammi (my-people) and will become the dominant nation by whom Jehovah will administer the Kingdom. Other nations will be blessed under their sway.
A prophesied great tribulation also known as “Jacob’s trouble” (Jeremiah 30:7) is to be their part when they are again brought back to Jehovah. At that period, they are again called “My people” Ammi. Then the Prophetic Assyrian appears to brake them. But himself is broken on the mountain of the holy beauty. Daniel 11:45. This king of the north shall come to his end. (11:45)

One verse clearly shows that the Assyrian come in last only when Israel is anew accepted as “MY People-AMMI. The tribulation has ended; double judgment has been assign to her. (Read Isaiah 40:1-2)

Here is the verse to identify that the Assyrian is the last enemy appearing when Israel retakes her title of Ammi.

“And it shall come to pass when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Sion and upon Jerusalem…I will punish the fruit of stoutness of fruit of heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high look.” Isaiah 10:12

The first enemy, Assyria becomes the last enemy to fall. This is the end of the indignation so often mentioned by the prophet. He was used of God as a rod of chastisement and now the end has arrived.

“Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah of host: O my people (they become Ammi anew) that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian (now the Muslim communities or kingdom north of Israel); he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt: for yet a little while and the indignation shall be accomplished, and my anger in their destruction.” Isaiah 10:24-25

Another prophet Micah after announcing that the Messiah or Judge of Israel was smitten with a rod upon the cheek (5:1) declares that this smitten man shall be their peace.

“And this man shall be Peace. When the Assyrian shall come into our land, and when he shall thread our palaces…” Micah 5:5

We cannot as prophetic student ignore this great adversary of Israel. He is not the Antichrist which works within. This last player will work without, after the destruction in the lake of fire of the Beast (Revived Roman empire, the last imperial head) and Antichrist.

It has been said, in prophecy “The first enemy becomes the last.” William Kelly 1821-1906

Damascus and Israel

Many modern prophecy update teachers such as Amir Tsarfati, J.D.Farag, Jack Hibbs, and Don Steward all highly and loudly proclaim that according to Isaiah 17:1 , DAMASCUS is to be destroyed and become a “ruinous heap”.

And Scripture does say so!!!

HISTORICALLY, according to the prophecy of Isaiah 7:1 during the wicked days of Ahaz, king of Judah, Rezin, king of Syria and Pekah, king of Israel (10 tribes’ technical name often used in scripture) confederated to set aside the LINE OF MESSIAH by the destruction of Judah.

“Let us go against Juda, and harass it, and make a breach therein for us, and set up a king therein…” To assail the throne of David was a devilish attempt to throw away the promised seed from Judah: MESSIAH.

Who were they, Damascus and Samaria (another technical name for the 10 tribes or Northern kingdom) to oppose the counsels of God. Jehovah says “It shall not stand and come to pass” Isaiah 7:7

God could not allow this historic scheme. So Ephraim (another technical name for 10 tribes or Israel) and Damascus, head of Syria are both to be dealt with within a range of 65 years. (Read Isaiah 7:7-8)

Having failed to secure their objective of eliminating the line of Judah by coming to Jerusalem and attacking Ahaz, we read that this confederate plan was annul of God.

Both “Rezin the king of Syria and Pekah son of Remaliah, king of Israel, came up to Jerusalem to battle and they besieged Ahaz, but were unable to conquer him.” 2 Kings 16:5

Ahaz, king of Judah, turned around, took silver and gold out of the house of Jehovah and the king’s house and made a present to the king of Assyria to prime him to destroy Damascus.

This the Assyrian king did. “And the king of Assyria hearkened to him; and the king of Assyria went up against Damascus, and took it.” 2 Kings 16:9
So what Isaiah prophesied in Isaiah 7:8 came to pass within a period of 65 years. First under the early Assyrian leader Tiglath-Pileser we read of the destruction of Damascus, “a ruinous heap.” Later came another Assyrian leader under the name Shalmaneser who under the now 12th year of reign of Ahaz took the ten tribes and scattered them in the lands of Assyria, till this day. (2 Kings 17:1-6)

“Israel was carried away out of their own land to Assyria, UNTO THIS DAY.” These 10 tribes are still there somewhere in Afghanistan and surrounding countries.

So history did happen and Damascus was destroyed!

We now move to PROPHECY “IN THAT DAY THAT SHALL COME TO PASS.” (Isaiah 17:4 and 7 and 9)

It is a false principle to limit the words of Jehovah as we human being speak. His bearing are larger and span oftentimes over decades and centuries not to mention millennials.

Thus, I conquer that words attached to Damascus did occur yet will also prophetically come to pass. Damascus of Syria awaits a greater “ruinous heap”.
The question is WHEN?

Scripture is of help if we venture not to put in our own foolish minds. We must look at it with the mind of God: the restoration of Israel under the leadership of Messiah. This is the end in view of all prophecy. I might humbly add “and the blessing of nations under the sway of restored Israel.”

If one is inclined to accept Scripture as utterance of the breath of Jehovah, then in the same context of the “ruinous heap “of Damascus we must take in that Israel during that same period will be made lean. “And the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall become lean.” Isaiah 17:4 and in that day “there shall be desolation.” 17:9

“In that day” both Damascus, a ruinous heap and Israel, a desolation!!!
It is utterly misleading that prophetic teachers should separate these two events from being at different era. At the same time that Damascus is to fall, Jerusalem will be desolate and have but a small godly remnant. After the leaning “And a gleaning shall be left in it, as the shaking of an olive-tree: two, three berries above, in the tree-top; four, five in its fruitful boughs saith Jehovah, the God of Israel. “ 17:6

As prophecy students we are distracted by “prophecy updates” telling us that because Damascus is now hiding destructive weapons under the city warehouses and that the next prophetic event to look for is the “ruinous ruin of Damascus” by now all powerful military Israel of 2018.

What human imagination as come about since the declaration in 1948 of Israel being now a nation. For 70 years we have been blinded with the emancipation of such a small country. It is true that Israel produces any time of vegetation found in this world. It is true that their ingenuity in the technical world has achieved the highest ranking and it is true that their military arsenal is beyond the worlds greatest.

All this being true, does not alter that Israel of to-day is a rebellious people to Jehovah, the crucified one. This return to their patriotic land is one of unbelief and an apostate one. A few Jews turn to Jesus the despised one and are added to the Church but the mass is still in unbelief.

We cannot separate the desolation of Jerusalem, a despised, lean godly remnant with the fall of Damascus. They occur at the same time “in that day”.
If one requires further utterances from Scripture, then read the following from same chapter of Isaiah 17:10 “There shall be desolation. For thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of their strength.”
What a picture of Israel to-day. (from 1948 to present) Jehovah, Christ forgotten, the God of their foundation! The rock of their strength is themselves and their own righteousness.! Messiah is still foreign and a bastard to their sight, having found no beauty in his humbled coming. It is only in His glorious appearing in judgment that they will swallow their own righteousness and cry from the sand of desolation. Then and only then will they turn to the crucified, whose hands they have pierced and whose body they spitted upon his face.

If one looks at Israel to-day, all you see is glamour, and puffing off of self. Come they say “Israel is the safest place on earth” we are the specimen crown of mankind. Look at us!!!

Well God will blow on this puffing and so called glamour of foreign slips of wine produce and agricultural, technical and military growth. In a day all will vanish and flee away and the sorrow or tribulation to be incurable.

Read carefully what will shortly come to pass from glamour, prosperity and puffing up” Therefore thou shall plant pleasant plantations and set them with foreign slips (millions of wine slip were imported and planted to once a dry land): in the day of their planting wilt thou make them to grow and on the morrow wilt thou make they seed to flourish (their drainage savoir-faire) BUT THE HARVEST WILL FLEE in the day of taking possession, and the sorrow (the great tribulation) will be incurable. “Isaiah 17:10-11)

Do not look for Damascus to be “a ruinous heap” as a sign of prophecy update. Look for the desolation of Israel under the powerful hand of God and then you will see Damascus also a desolation. In that day a lean godly remnant will become the true Israel of God, not the Israel we are witnessing in our generation.

Let us learn from Scripture and not from so called “prophecy updates.”

Past events and past wars and past nations are not to be isolated in our understanding, they can become partial accomplishment or they by the Spirit of prophecy look up to future events “In that day”. Prophecy is of no private interpretation but looks up to the full realisation of Christ and his kingdom on earth.

In Him,

The Assyrian, this unknown prophetic player! PART 1

Many a writer on prophetic exposition are unaware of the existence of this prophetic evil giant of the Holy Scripture.

It is this personage, that will break the pride of Israel and bring them to finally call on the Lord for their final salvation. Not Antichrist, the religious beast, nor the future prince of the Roman regenerated empire, the political beast will break to the uttermost the Jewish self righteousness.

These two beast, one from outside the sphere of Jerusalem and the other from the inner circle of Jewish polity will be mighty foes in action yet the last and final stroke will come from what Scripture often refers to as the ASSYRIAN.

Why haven’t bible commenters put a handhold on this personage? Flirting with prophecy and the absence of seriously searching the mind of God has led to serious confusion in our mind. This habit of quick understanding of prophecy have led many to shipwreck as far as rightly cutting the word of God.

The lack of midnight oil searching into the Holy writings, couple with lack of Holy Spirit teaching, has produced the effect that few are those that now venture in the study of “Blessed is he that reads, and they that hear the words of prophecy.” Revelation 1:3

As the book of Revelation closes, and the Lord announces His prompt return, we are again admonished “Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.” Rev.22:7

Prophecy is a serious thing with God for it unveils the future events to come and zooms in on Christ and His kingdom to be established. Jesus Christ is the sprout for beauty and glory for excellency and ornament. (Isaiah 2:2) To abide in the study of prophecy is to be brought in spirit to a further understanding of what God has reserved for his Anointed. To read and hear the word of prophecy is a special blessing and all are invited!

So who is this Assyrian that Scripture is so zoomed on and where was his territory in the past and in coming days.?

To phantom that prophetic player opens the horizon to a better understanding of the whole counsels of prophetic events. Scripture cannot be broken (John 10:35) and prophecy is of no private interpretation (not an isolated event encompasses the mind or spectrum of prophecy, prophecy is a whole!) (2 Peter 1:20)

Before we answer the “Who” and the “Where” let me explain the “When”.

When did the Assyrian exist in the Israelite history?

He was raised of Jehovah to chastise the idolatrous 10 tribes that had severed themselves from Juda, the royal line. The greatest outcry (apart from the crucifixion of the Messiah) is heard from Jeroboam, the aspirer to the throne of David “To your tent, Israel!” (1 Kings12:16)

The “split” was done to this day. The 10 tribes separated themselves from the royal line and were known as Israel or because of the strongest of their 10 tribes Ephraim, it became their technical name as witnessed by Isaiah who lived this historic period. “And it was told the house of David (the two tribes consisting of Judah and Benjamin) saying, Syria is allied with Ephraim (the ten tribes) (Isaiah 7:2)

A few verses later, we get a prophecy that was accomplished “and within sixty-five years shall Ephraim be broken, so to be no more a people. (Isaiah 7:8)

“For Israel (10 tribes) had rent the kingdom from house of David.” ( 2 Kings 17:20) this was called “a great sin.” (21) “And Israel (ten tribes) was carried away out of their land to Assyria, unto this day.” (23) The king of Assyria replaced them with other nations that he had conquered and they eventually became with time: The Samaritans.

So, the 10 tribes have been scattered throughout the north of Palestine “unto this day” What we find in the land of Israel is mostly Jews (Juda) and Benjamin. These came from the captivity of Babylon which was the second stroke of Jehovah on the remaining two tribes that over time proved worst than Ephraim. They are the ones who after the return under Ezra and Nehemiah proved to be in time the actual rejecters of the Messiah. The blood of their sons will have to answer to the worst crime ever committed.

Please register that there is a GREAT difference between Ephraim (10 tribes) and Juda (2 tribes). The former is still in the land of historic Assyria “to this day”. Their crime was idolatry whereas the latter is to be charged with their children of rejection and death of Messiah. Prophetically speaking one is to be judged in the land and the other (the 10 tribes) will return to the land and on their journey the rebels are to be consummated.

“And I will bring you out of the peoples, and will gather you out of the countries where you have been scattered…I will purge out of among you the rebels…and they shall not enter the land of Israel.” (Read carefully Ezekiel 20:34-38, this is reserved for the 2 tribes still in dispersion and completely unknown to mankind and even to these people themselves.

They were dispersed and are still” to this day”. So who was this mighty enemy raised by Jehovah. It was the land known as Assyria, having the capital of Nineveh. There holding encompass all the lands of Afghanistan up to the Eastern side of what is now called Turkey. Nineveh, in the midst of the Tiger river was destroyed but or those familiar with Mid Eastern news the city of Monsul recaptured of late days lays just across old diluted Nineveh. This shows what territory the historic Assyrian held and this might be of help to identify the prophetic Assyrian. Notice there are peoples of all nations located in this geographic span of old Assyria.

The national borders have drastically changed and might still change in our days but one thing is certain: the hatred toward Israel has never evolved with the many generations to occupy the Assyrian lands. Today, all the north of Israel is Arabic and Muslims orientation. “Death to Israel” “Sharia is the law” and “Let us push Israel to the Mediterranean” We read “They say, Come, let us cut them of from being a nation, and let the name of Israel be mentioned no more.” Psalms 83:4

And then we read in the same Psalm 83:8 “Asshur (the old name for Assyria) also is joined to them and they are in arms with the sons of Lot (Moab and Ammon) see Genesis 19:36-38

The Assyrian is a future enemy called “the desolator” in Daniel 9:27 (prophetic Assyrian to finally again attack the desolate, beloved city of Jerusalem) Also Daniel the prophet refers to him as the king of the North. The whole of Daniel 8 is consecrated to this “king of bold countenance” (8:23) who will be mighty “And his power shall be might, but not by his own power.” (8:24) Of course we are aware that Russia is getting daily involved in the Mid East and stretching its arms in Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, Iran. When this area of Old Assyria is ready, Russia will back up this Desolator or King of the North.

A whole book is consecrated to this Assyrian figure. It is called Nahum, a small but mighty prophet. He describes the ruin of Nineveh, Assyrian’s capital of old “Out of thee is gone forth one that imagineth evil against Jehovah, a wicked counsellor” (counsellor of Belial) Nahum 1:11 Thus is typified the Assyrian of old. The prophetic Assyrian of same mind and action.

Furthermore, the prophet Micah, another small prophet, has a prophecy that has not taken place in the old testament but will occur in biblical prophecy “And this man shall be Peace (this man is a reference to Messiah who once came and was smitten with a rod upon his cheek (Micah 5:1-2) when the Assyrian shall come into our land, and when he shall tread our palaces…” Micah 5:5 …”he shall deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh to our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.” Micah 5:6

The Assyrian is not mystic but literal. Out of old Assyria we are witnessing north of Israel an amalgamation of Muslim counties united in hatred to the earthly people of old.

Trust some of the questions have been answered as to the Who-Where -When of the Assyrian enemy to be one of the key actors of prophecy. I venture to say more terrible than the two beasts of Revelation 13.
