It has seemed to me that the era of teachers who went above and beyond to teach their students are gone. Lost are the times when a teacher would stand on a chair(or desk) to act out a scene of Macbeth, or a battle of the Civil war, in order to grasp the attention of their students. I had wonderful teachers in the '70s who taught because they enjoyed teaching. They loved children and they immersed themselves in the topics they loved. It was obvious, and the children each felt important( even in a class of 20 children).
