This techtalk was given on November 2, 2016, which is Vim's 25th birthday. It is presented by Bram Moolenaar in the Google Zurich office. it gives an overview of Vim history and highlights the important choices that were made.

I love that so many of the "Founding Fathers" of computer technology and software are still alive today and you can actually talk to these pioneers. It's something that a lot of other fields don't have.

The leaked images of Apple's new MacBook Pro shows the Esc and F keys being replaced with a touch bar.

http://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2016/10/25/13409258/apple-new-macbook-pro-no-escape-key

This feels like a shot against the programmer community (Vimmers in particular), despite being part of Apple's newer apparent policy of style over function for their devices.

Thoughts?
So it turns out that images of Apple's new MacBook Pro, set to be unveiled on Thursday, are actually hiding inside the latest macOS Sierra update. They confirm that Jony Ive and Apple's designers...

What mode of regex do you use, and why? I have finally mostly adapted to default, but typing all those backslashes is really getting old these days...

Since I haven't tinkered with it too much (was trying to acclimate before I had a portable config and wanted to be able to work on any ol vi term) I figured I'd harass the community.

Is it possible to encrypt(blowfish2) my "code.py" via Vim and then run it on other machines ?

I'm writing a software for a robot(which is not mine) and for the preview i should deliver the code to the owner. but i wanna protect my code from reading.

If you know any solution please share with me.
Thanks

In theory you could ship the .pyc files. Or use cython to compile it. Or on Windows wrap in a executable and mac an app container. But as already pointed out by others, anybody that knows computers will get to the source at some point, set up a good contract and choose a good license, those are only real protection

Hi, I have been using vim for a little over a week now and have to say, I am already wondering how I managed without it for such a long time.

There is one thing I would like to be able to do though. I use I3 as my window manager and love the ability to tile windows. I would like to be able to use i3's tiling rather than vim's split window function.

Is this possible?

Wow! Thank you all for your advise. I will try and run a vim server and see how that pans out. Otherwise I will go with the tmux option. Thanks again

Funny thing is that I researched most of these things alone in my first year with vim and applied them gradually. Now there is this guy that basically invents every patch for the .vimrc that I needed to research on my own. :P
