I like that the actual data page includes both the source for the data as well as the provider of the data, which helps the reader weigh the validity of the information.

In my plan, the educator provides students with the cvs data from a resource for food stamp usage in Maryland over a five year period. Each student will use the dataset to create a line graph with a spreadsheet application and identify the resulting data pattern (an upward trend). Then, in a whole group discussion, the class will hypothesize on causes and correlations for the data pattern. Educators who plan to extend this lesson can help students research data to verify their hypotheses.
