Excellent website, the Society of Independent Southern Historians, founded by Clyde N. Wilson, with loads of readable history from the American Revolution through the War: southernhistorians.org/

Charlsie, chap. 6 and 9 and 11 (and probably more) have info about cash crops grown in the South.

Chapter 13 says that at times up to 5/6ths of the tariff was paid by the South. That's more that 80%.
