Sectarianism in Judaism:In Jesus' days there were many sects or groups of Judaism. They were
(1) The Pharisees,
But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.

Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk.

Acts 1:13

As Moses was the prophesied deliverer to Israel so too Jesus Christ was their prophesied Messiah. However the Jews rejected Him and so the floodgates of God's love were opened to the Gentiles. That was nothing new. Gentiles found salvation or deliverance in the Old Testament too like Rahab the prostitute and Ruth the Moabitess.
Jesus Christ said He will build His Church upon the rock of revelation that the Apostle Peter received from God the Father in heaven. That revelation is that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. Even devils confessed Him and knew who He was but the blinded Jews knew not.

Israel was referred to as the Church in the wilderness
This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us:
Acts 7:38
God formed this church through Abraham, the father of our faith.

And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:
Romans 4:11
And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.
Romans 4:12
Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,
Romans 4:16
Many times God referred to himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob or Israel.
Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.
Exodus 3:6
That they may believe that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee
Exodus 4:5
O LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this for ever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare their heart unto thee:
1 Chronicles 29:18
And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word.
I Kings 18:36
Abraham,Isaac and Jacob or Israel were the founding fathers of the Old Testament Church, Israel.Similarly the New Testament Church had three pillars;James,Peter and John.
And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision
Galatians 2:9

The Church started with Jesus Christ. The Old Testament Church, Israel, was delivered by God through Moses. The writer of the book of Hebrews made the comparison between Moses and Jesus Christ.

Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.
Hebrews 3:1-2

Joseph, son of Jacob, prophesied that God will deliver His people out of Egypt.
And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.
Genesis 50:24-25

The angel of the Lord told Joseph, husband of Mary that Jesus Christ will save His people from their sins
But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Matthew 1:20-21

One Church
Jesus Christ prayed for the unity of His Church.
And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
John 17:11
Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
John 17:20-23

History repeats itself. The writer of Ecclesiastes whom most Bible scholars believe was King Solomon put it this way,
The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. Ecclesiates 1:9
During this series we will see how Old Testament history repeated itself in the New Testament Church. So is there anything new under the sun? No, but there are new things above the sun yet to be revealed.

The Tower of Babel
Mystery surrounds the construction of this tower. Some say it was the Babylonian ziggurat spiraling up into the sky. Some wondered how it was constructed. The fact remains that the people were united and there was one language. There was no communication problem and therefore nothing could stop them except divine intervention.
