Quiz Nr. 9:Which design technique would you prefer ?
This time we ask a question about a design detail in the mandrel.
On the picture we see two differently tapered ports.
At the method 1 we have a full taper and at the method 2 we have a straight contour and then a taper.
Who can say which technique is better for the extrusion parameters like temperature, speed, pressure etc ?
Later we will make simulations to see the differences. So stay tuned.

The work flow in ExtrusionPower: he layout designer creates the 2D die layout consisting of ports, webs and other die related features. The specialist 3D CAD System "ExtrusionPower" creates then the die automatically in 3D, which includes all the details like complex blends, 3D bearing lengths, automatic chamfering of webs at the material entrance etc. The work is not yet finished with the design. The data is then transferred to downstream applications such as CAM, FEA and PDM

Demo Extrusion Die

This is a small porthole extrusion die set made for a customer for demonstration purposes. The diameter of the die is 120mm x 100mm thick. It was then EDM cut in such a way that it can be separated into two or four parts.
