Revelation 17:1-14

And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: 2 with whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. 3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: 5 and upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. 6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.

7 And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns. 8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. 9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. 10 And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space. 11 And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition. 12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. 13 These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. 14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

JUDGES 7:1-23 -Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and all the people that were with him, rose up early, and pitched beside the well of Harod: so that the host of the Midianites were on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley. 2 And the Lord said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me. 3 Now therefore go to, proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, Whosoever is fearful and afraid, let him return and depart early from mount Gilead. And there returned of the people twenty and two thousand; and there remained ten thousand. 4 And the Lord said unto Gideon, The people are yet too many; bring them down unto the water, and I will try them for thee there: and it shall be, that of whom I say unto thee, This shall go with thee, the same shall go with thee; and of whomsoever I say unto thee, This shall not go with thee, the same shall not go. 5 So he brought down the people unto the water: and the Lord said unto Gideon, Every one that lappeth of the water with his tongue, as a dog lappeth, him shalt thou set by himself; likewise every one that boweth down upon his knees to drink. 6 And the number of them that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, were three hundred men: but all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water. 7 And the Lord said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thine hand: and let all the other people go every man unto his place. 8 So the people took victuals in their hand, and their trumpets: and he sent all the rest of Israel every man unto his tent, and retained those three hundred men: and the host of Midian was beneath him in the valley.

9 And it came to pass the same night, that the Lord said unto him, Arise, get thee down unto the host; for I have delivered it into thine hand. 10 But if thou fear to go down, go thou with Phurah thy servant down to the host: 11 and thou shalt hear what they say; and afterward shall thine hands be strengthened to go down unto the host. Then went he down with Phurah his servant unto the outside of the armed men that were in the host. 12 And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the sea side for multitude. 13 And when Gideon was come, behold, there was a man that told a dream unto his fellow, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and, lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the host of Midian, and came unto a tent, and smote it that it fell, and overturned it, that the tent lay along. 14 And his fellow answered and said, This is nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel: for into his hand hath God delivered Midian, and all the host.

15 And it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped, and returned into the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the Lord hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian. 16 And he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put a trumpet in every man’s hand, with empty pitchers, and lamps within the pitchers. 17 And he said unto them, Look on me, and do likewise: and, behold, when I come to the outside of the camp, it shall be that, as I do, so shall ye do. 18 When I blow with a trumpet, I and all that are with me, then blow ye the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and say, The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon.

19 So Gideon, and the hundred men that were with him, came unto the outside of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch; and they had but newly set the watch: and they blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers that were in their hands. 20 And the three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands to blow withal: and they cried, The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon. 21 And they stood every man in his place round about the camp: and all the host ran, and cried, and fled. 22 And the three hundred blew the trumpets, and the Lord set every man’s sword against his fellow, even throughout all the host: and the host fled to Beth-shittah in Zererath, and to the border of Abel-meholah, unto Tabbath. 23 And the men of Israel gathered themselves together out of Naphtali, and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and pursued after the Midianites.

Things God doesn't allow in his army:
(1) Self-works
(2) Fear
(3) Watchlessness

32,000 were in the LORD'S army

31,700 left off of self-works

22,000 left for fear
10,000 were sent away for watchlessness

Only 300 were left in God's army

Scripture references:

32,000 compared to 300: Matthew 22:14 - For many are called, but few are chosen.

Self-works: Galatians 2:16 - knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

Fear: 2 Timothy 1:7 - For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Watchlessness: Mark 13:33,37 - Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is. And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.

Just as they had their jars filled with light and oil, so our jars (souls) should be filled with light (Jesus) & oil (Holy Spirit).

Let us determine to be like the 300 men Gideon had, and just as they were faithful and got the victory, so we will be victorious in Jesus Christ.

Hello to you all!

I am just paying a fleeting visit to let you know about a Google+ Collection, titled "Adventist Videos", which is well on the way towards 600 very short videos of between 1.30 minutes to about 12 minutes duration.

It is an eclectic mix, well suited to Adventist Youth.

These very short videos are ideal for watching on public transport or at any other time, - using only very little of you data allocation.

God bless your ministry & witness via this Community. Goodbye!

Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice. And be ye kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
-- (Ephesians 4:31,32)

Love vs Infatuation

The entrance of technology has made a world of difference with the style of courtship between the yesteryears and today. Classic examples of courtship then were visiting the lady in her house, serenading her with a song, and helping fetch water or chop firewoods for the family. Now courtship is online or virtual. Two people may have yet to meet each other and still become sweethearts.

Can this be love or simply infatuation?

Columnist Ann Landers shares some insights on what love and infatuation are. "Infatuation is instant desire", she said. "It is one set of glands calling to another." For her, "Love is friendship that has caught fire. It takes root and grows --- one day at a time."

She further explains that infatuation is "marked by a feeling of insecurity. You are excited and eager, but not genuinely happy. There are nagging doubts, unanswered questions, little bits and pieces about your beloved that you would just as soon not examine too closely." Doing so, however, might spoil the dream of a fairy-tale love story. Love, on the other hand, is "understanding and has the mature acceptance of imperfection."

Here are other thoughts on love vs infatuation:

Infatuation says, "We must get married right away, I can't risk losing him." Love says, "Be patient, don't panic. Plan your future with confidence...."
Infatuation lacks confidence. When he's away, you wonder if he's cheating.....
Love means trust. You are calm, secure, and unthreatened.... Infatuation might lead you to do things you will regret, but love never steers you in the wrong direction.... Love is elevating. It lifts you up. It makes you look up. It makes you better than you were before.

The apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 13:7 , "Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance" (NLT).

In Light of Life

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
---- (Matthew 5:14-16)

...Though we may not be method actors, we as Christians have a role. "You are the light of the world." In this passage, Jesus stresses how impossible it is to shine our light selectively.

It may be easy to shine our light at church, but at school (or at work)? Some hide their light to "fit in" or avoid hurting other's feelings.

In this increasingly liberal world, it may be hard to be light-shiners -- or bearers of truth. Yet how will we stop it? Like moths to a light, the world will notice the difference.

Let us not be dim lights that cause eyes to squint, nor floodlights that cause eyes to be covered. Let us not be flickering lights that cause irritation either. Instead, let us be a beckoning, guiding, warning light. Refuse to be anything other than your role. Take that step from behind the curtains and face your audience, your God-given light shining.
