Well done Talisa!
This is my favourite part of this amazing job, giving out prizes! On Friday I got to go into Hornby Primary and present the Top Blogger prize to a year 5 student, Talisa. She worked so incredibly hard throughout the programme, she even thought about giving up however with some help and encouragement from her whānau, she finished with flying colours and came away with a new Chromebook!

Another exciting prize giving on Monday. This year our most active school in the Uru Mānuka cluster was South Hornby Primary and my goodness they were excited to hear this and to receive a Pohutukawa Tree in recognition of the students hard work and the teachers encouragement.
Congratulations South Hornby Primary!

This is an amazing resource from Grow Waitaha to find out what your students think about learning.
Why?
It is useful for educators to understand students’perspectives about learning in order to co-create authentic learning experiences with them.
Students’ perspectives can support educators to think about the why and how of learning to:
make learning personalised and meaningful
provide students with ownership of their learning
empower students to approach their learning with
motivation, confidence, and self-efficacy.

Another amazing post from the Uru Mānuka cluster!
The Summer Learning Journey isn't just a holiday blogging programme but a way for students to get creative and express themselves through different outlets and reaching others they may have never reached before.
Here is an example of another students amazing work with her poem about the Southern Lights.

With this years Summer Learning Journey theme being "The World Around Us", focusing on the environment, many of the activities focus on the environmental challenges we face here in Aotearoa, one being Kauri dieback disease threatening our legendary Tāne Mahuta. Luckily there are strategies being put in place to combat these threats and help preserve our environment for the future. Watch this installment of "Hilary Helps" to see how.

We are over half way through the Summer Learning Journey and the quality of posts coming in are really blowing us away this year! The time and effort being put into them is a real testament to these students and will continue to benefit them well after the Summer Learning Journey wraps up.
Here is a sample of one of the amazing posts from a Hornby High School student.
