I''ve got weechat running great on cygwin but i wanted to move to mintty but I can't figure out how to launch it... I'm not sure what I'm missing!  I'm not very good with *nix so bear with me.

The command should be the same on any terminal used (just "weechat"). If that's not working, you should check your OS/shell/terminal settings.

How to integrate twitter without bitlbee
apt-get yum pacman etc install python-pip
sudo pip install twitter
launch twitter in CLI and paste in auth code
in weechat
to tweet ..
/shell -o twitter set <tweet goes here>
to see timeline ..
/shell -o twitter friends
to see DM's
/shell -o twitter replies
or just make alises
Iv'e not figured how to get timeline in realtime, but maybe that's not such a good idea anyways.

Swap out shell.py with the official exec plugin, and you won't need to load an additional script either ;)

How does weechat decide where new buffers will be opened? I have auto_renumber off, and buffer_position set to end.

However, when I get a new query in bitlbee, it ends up opening buffer #8, pushing the existing 8-18 buffers +1. I'd have expected it to either add in the first gap (19), or after the last buffer (70).

Is this a bug, or am I misunderstanding how it should work?

(it seems unlikely that that's what I had there, I never wanted that PM to be in that position)

Yes, and /exec can download URLs, without calling external command.
See /help exec for examples.

+Cirrus McMinor: if you're using devel version of WeeChat (1.0-dev), you could use the bare display to easily click on URLs (even very long ones), see more info on the devel blog: http://dev.weechat.org/post/2014/02/16/Bare-display

Would someone mind writing these two scripts?
1. Sending a text string "PESTERCHUM:TIME>?" whenever a user joins a channel.
2.  and something that can strip <c=0-225,0-225,0-225> as well as its closing tag from messages?

At the moment I'm currently running Weechat 0.4.2 via Cygwin, so I don't think that upgrading to the dev version is possible. Hence, why I asked for a script instead of a trigger.

Can I use Telegram messenger with +WeeChat?

I've been using this fantastic messenger called Telegram (quite a WhatsApp clone, but encrypted) on my Android phone and desktop. There's a CLI version too, which I've successfully compiled and got working: https://github.com/vysheng/tg

Since I am mainly discussing with people over IRC and WeeChat it would be great to make use of Telegram too.

Is this even theoretically possible? I'm thinking of piping incoming and outgoing Telegram messages via WeeChat and running the Telegram client on background. Or would it be better to run it under eg. Bitlbee?

What do you say? Should I open a feature request ticket somewhere?

Libpurple can be used (optionally) in Bitlbee. It is used in Minbif (similar to Bitlbee) and other chat programs like Pidgin. So maybe it would be the best place to add this protocol?
I don't know the Telegram protocol at all, so that's just an idea.

I cannot for the life of me find out how to set the color of "current channel name" in my status bar. Right now it's green text on a blue background, which is impossible to read. Any tips?

Hi, if you want to use weechat from your Android phone or tablet, there is now an updated package available in the Termux (http://termux.com) app!

After installing the app, execute 'apt update && apt install weechat' to install the weechat package and then run weechat normally. I tested that ssl support and unicode characters work, but let me know if you find any issue!

Running weechat in tmux, but since rebooting the server last, something seems to be corrupting the display. It seems that new lines aren't always pushing the scrollback, often ending up overwriting previous lines instead?

Similarly, the statusbar background doesn't extend until the screen end.

Any idea how to debug these problems?

I usually just do that to change TZ when travelling, and that gets picked up immediately. I guess TERM is only checked during startup though.

Thank you all! I had logging enabled and set to level 9. When I reconnected I saw a grayed out history of my conversations. All I had to do was adjust the number of lines from 20 to 100 and reopen my PMs and my chat history was there. Thank you all very much. Loving WeeChat!!!

I'm a big fan of the smart join/part/quit messages.  But I'd really like to disable them altogether and have departed spoken nicks (and/or their message text) shown in a different background color / dimmed or something else fairly obvious.  Regardless of how long ago they spoke.  I guess this is more complex because it requires a buffer redraw.

Anybody know if this would be possible with a plugin?  Or would it need core changes?

Compiling WeeChat from its official git repository
Updated my #WeeChat  guide over at http://fixato.org/guides/setting_up_weechat.html#compiling-weechat-from-scratch

New WeeChat Tutorial Section: Compiling WeeChat From Scratch
I've finished writing a small extra article section for my Guide To WeeChat, which deals with compiling (and updating/upgrading) the #WeeChat   #IRC ¹ client.

So, if you want to use all bleeding edge features (and latest bug fixes) of the +WeeChat client, then go check out http://fixato.org/guides/setting_up_weechat.html#compiling-weechat-from-scratch and start compiling your own WeeChat from the development git repository!

I'll probably add a sub-section tomorrow describing how to switch to a specific branch of WeeChat, so you can try out experimental features such as the new trigger plugin that is available for testing right now on the 'trigger' branch: http://dev.weechat.org/post/2014/02/10/Trigger-plugin

¹ Yes, WeeChat actually is a multi-protocol chat client, but I primarily use it for IRC. :)

I use highmon. I run weechat in tmux. I'd like to have my laptop connected to my tmux weechat session and my nexus 7 connect only my highmon buffer.
