Hello everyone!

Just a reminder about tonight's final Barcamp SWFL leadership planning camp for 2014. This is not an ongoing meeting, but instead an opportunity for teams to come together for the unConference and growing the community in 2014 and beyond.

We need to work fast and get this job finished quickly this evening. Expect to be in the conference room for an hour and 45 minutes. We'll be heading over to Grimaldi's Pizza for beer and pizza afterwards.

If you did not attend the first leadership camp - No Worries! You'll have an opportunity to catch up in the beginning of the meeting.

If you're not able to attend tonight but were present at the first leadership camp  - No Worries! Your team will bring you up to speed and the documents will be available in the BarcampSWFL and shared on Google Drive.

What To Expect Tonight:

Introductions
Recap December's Leadership Camp
Teams will organize independently
Teams will delegate responsibilities
Team to submit timelines

Teams:

Web Development & Design

Social Media & Content

How to setup Google Authorship with 500px // I had previously http://bit.ly/W8U6r2 written about adding your author information in your content so that your name can show up next to Google search engine results of your website and Google+ posts.

But would this work on a third-party service that is not in your own domain? Well, at least for +500px, it works and it's really easy to setup.

1) Go to your 500px settings page (https://500px.com/settings) and declare your Google+ address
2) Go to your Google+ about page and add your 500px address in the Links section
3) Confirm that everything is working with Google's Structured Data Testing Tool http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets

You're done!

Not sure if all of you know about this paper I curate and publish weekly on behalf of +BarcampSWFL - The content focuses on tech, startups and economic development in Florida.

I've spent the last few years nurturing friendships around the state with professionals working in these segments and that's who I curate content from...still adding though. : )

A few of our pictures are up : ) Go ahead and subscribe and you'll get the weekly newsletter that comes with it.

Can anyone offer suggestions to this teacher?

A colleague is looking for persuasive arguments for unblocking Google+ in his school (at least for faculty). He would love a slam dunk resource, that would persuade admin. What are your suggestions?

perhaps attach this to an education initiative about being a good Digital Citizen. This is a crucial must do and even better if done in a safe nurturing environment - http://www.digitalcitizenship.net/

See everyone at 7 PM tonight here on Google+
Michele Lorito-Chase originally shared:

We'll be getting into the nitty gritty of all things on the Barcamp Southwest Florida 2014 agenda and making final decisions on the crowdsourced ideas moving forward.

On December 18th, thirteen members gathered for BCSWFL Leadership Camp 2014; we got to know one another, shared our ideas and talked about how we can grow the community and make this years unConference the best ever.

If you weren't able to join us and have an interest in being part of BarcampSWFL leadership, please do join us for Phase II.

Hope to see you there!

P.S. If you have any questions about using Google+ Hangouts, just give us a shout!

Happy New Year to all of you! I hope your holidays were pleasant and your 2014 is off to a great awesome start!

The board is in my garage and I've been reconstructing it on a mindmap. It's just about finished and it should be ready prior to our meeting scheduled next week on January 8th.

There's a few things I'll be implementing here on the Google+ group, so please stay posted on this community and take a few minutes to review as I update the feed.

Have an awesome day : )

The Design of the Event

This may only appeal to other high-volume conference attendees, but here's a set of characteristics of great conference badges. (After you produce a few dozen conferences, these are the kinds of things you need to care about...) Remember, the badge isn't for you, as an attendee: Sure, it helps you become part of a flash community, but it's really for everybody else.

The one mundane point missed: Badges need to be high enough so you don't have to look down at someone's navel.

gB
In its second year, XOXO is a legitimate replacement for SXSW. Full of bleeding-edge makers of things, XOXO has a fascination with fuchsia and a great badge. XOXO 2012. I can write this because over the years, I've developed a strong opinion regarding badges.

Heya!...Not sure if you're familiar with +CrisisCommons - but I just received information on Hurricane Evan that hit Fiji. I don't have time to look at the criteria or what tasks are being recruited for.

As an aside; If anyone ever wants to discuss CrisisCampSWFL in the future, please let's! We certainly need something like this here on the Gulf Coast....and paying it forward and helping other areas of the country and world just seems like the right thing to do.

For Sandy, CrisisCommons was commissioned by the University of New York and FEMA to help with numerous data and mapping tasks. Very interesting work. Take a look here for more info: http://crisiscommons.org/
