#GraduateProfile Logan Swinkels (Bachelor of Media Arts). Since graduating from Wintec with a Bachelor of Media Arts majoring in moving image, I've been all over the place putting my education to good use.

I recently came back from a year living abroad in Toronto where I got to experience the Canadian way of life and freelance as a video producer & editor.

I worked with pop singer Anastasia A, shooting a music video that aired on Disney (USA) and Family (Canada) channels, I teamed up with metal band Where Giants Once Stood to produce all their professional video/photo content, plus I worked onset for the season 2 production of 'Bill & Sons Towing' along with editing the first 6 episodes of that season.

The big highlight however was getting to produce my documentary 'Show Some Heart: The Story of Wayne's Road Hockey Warriors' - it's about Toronto youth struggling to get into hockey because of how much it costs and what some NHL stars are doing to help. I interviewed a bunch of pro hockey players for the doco, including double-Olympic gold medalist Drew Doughty.

Back home, I've worked on The Food Truck season 1 and other reality TV productions before I moved onto 3News as a News Video Editor, working closely with some of NZ's top journalists. During my time there, I've been lucky enough to travel and edit in the field for NZ Fashion Week, the V8 Supercars and Ironman. At 3News I work closely with other WINTEC alumni like Greg Pearson. Now that I'm back from Canada, I'm freelancing at 3News in the same position.

I also run my own production company where I do music video production, plus documentary and wedding film work: http://loganlights.co/

I'm actually heading down to Dunedin this week for the World Juniors ice hockey tournament as the official broadcast partner for the IIHF (International Ice Hockey Federation) - so pumped to get down south and film the games!

I would love to tell my story and give back to WINTEC in some way. The education I received from John Mandelberg really paved the way for me. I always enjoyed SPARK week and a goal of mine was to one day come back and inspire the next generation like so many sessions did for me. Check out Logan's video for Anastasia A here: http://vimeo.com/80723194

#AlumniProfile Kristi Bernards, Bachelor of Information Technology graduate.
"Studying at Wintec was one of the best experiences of my life.

Returning as an adult student with young children, I was shy and unsure about returning to study. My confidence was shot. However with the support of staff and my fellow students, it was not long before I was flying! I made the best friends, I had great times and I gained a whole lot of knowledge and the confidence to succeed.

Studying in the field of Information Technology opened my eyes to a wider and increasingly complex world of opportunities and possibilities. By the time I finished by studies I was excited and ready for new challenges and experiences. Now my role revolves around building technology confidence and competence in others.

I remain passionate about technology, about education and about technology in education; and the world is my oyster!"

‪#‎GraduateProfile‬ I studied a Bachelor of Media Arts majoring in Communication under the Public Relations/Advertising pathway and graduated in 2014.
I chose Wintec because I liked the hands on approach to learning. By the time I reached the last year of my degree, almost all of my assignments involved projects with real clients that had potential to be used and implemented.
I loved being connected to industry straight away. Even in my first year, I was already volunteering and working for big concerts because I was connected with one of the Wintec graduates who was doing the shows. Also my tutors either had a strong link with the industry or still working in the field so I really did learn from the best!
I’ve been doing a lot of projects since graduating. Aside from what I call my ‘day job’ in marketing, I run an event called Pecha Kucha and am the managing editor of Blacklisted Magazine. Blacklisted started because I met a student in the Media Arts Festival, Spark who wanted to do a magazine. We had different strengths, me being in communication and her in photography & design, so I came on board as the editor of Blacklisted in late 2013. Our sixth issue is about to be released soon and this one is especially close to my heart because it’s the first issue we’re releasing after expanding!

#AlumniProfile James Gaustad, Bachelor of Business graduate

James is an Audit Manager for BDO Australia. He started out at KPMG in Hamilton before moving to Cairns in 2004.

"Favourite memories of Wintec:
• I met some great people that I still keep in touch with;
• Showing up on the first day of each new subject and seeing who was in my class;
• Some great lecturers
• Back in my pre-social media days, walking over to have a look at the results on the notice boards was the fastest way to find out I had passed each subject;
• Studying in the old buildings on the Northern side.

Least favourite memory: Walking up that bloody hill every day…"
