“It is a peculiar sensation, this double-consciousness, this sense of always looking at one's self through the eyes of others, of measuring one's soul by the tape of a world that looks on in amused contempt and pity” W.E.B. Du Bois

"Even the dictionary definition of white means clean and pure. We can find, in Roget’s Thesaurus, over 134 synonyms for whiteness, most with positive connotations. In contrast, Roget’s Thesaurus tells us black means dirty, prohibited and funereal. It provides 120 synonyms for black and blackness, none with positive connotation. This is why a white lie is excusable; and black lie is all that is wicked and evil. Evolution itself moves from black to white. Indeed, even the Merciful God is white, with a bushy beard and bright pink cheeks. The conclusion: One is white as one is rich, as one is beautiful, as one is intelligent. And the corollary: he is Negro who is immoral. To become moral in this scheme of the universe, Fanon tells us, it is necessary to cease being a Negro, cease being true to history and himself" Frantz Fanon

"The goal of the academy is the discovery of order. Order may only be a condition of mens minds, but seek it we must. The imperative to discover order may stem from mans instinct to survive. To know is to have power to have power enhances the chances of survival. Only order is knowable, chaos or lack of order is not, therefore we must assume that order exists" Ronald J. Horvath

"The unification of the economic field tends, especially through monetary unification and the generalisation of monetary exchanges that follow, to hurl all social agents into an economic game for which they are not equally prepared or equipped, culturally and economically. It tends by the same token to submit them to standards objectively imposed by competition from more efficient productive forces and modes of production, as can readily be seen with small rural producers who are more and more completely torn away from self sufficiency" Bourdieu

"morality is based neither on the principle of utility, nor on a law of nature, but on human reason. According to Kant, reason tells us what we ought to do, and when we obey our own reason, only then are we truly free".

"It is not the consciousness of men that determines their existence, but their social existence that determines their consciousness" Karl Marx

Welcome to the new members!

While agreeing with much of Marx's economic theory, he rejected his authoritarian politics and the major division within the international was between the anarchists and the Marxists. While Marx believed that socialism could be built by taking over the state, Bakunin looked forward to it's destruction and the creation of a new society based on free federations of free workers.
