I'm looking for feedback.  I suspect about half of the 21 members of this group are fake accounts and we have the same GTA group on Facebook.  I'm considering shutting down this G+ community if everyone can join to the Facebook group.   What are your thoughts?

Great news Greater Tehachapi Astronomers! After an 8 year search, I think I found a location in Tehachapi where we can meet and use telescopes without coordination headaches and that, on first inspection, looks well suited for astronomy. First a quick quiz: How many airports are there in Tehachapi? Correct answer: THREE! The 3rd airport was created in 2012, is owned by the Golden Hills CSD, and is located less than 5 minutes from the Tucker and Valley intersection. I kid you not! The final "give away" for my fellow pilot friends is that the runway length is 550ft, perfect for flying RC aircraft.

The Tehachapi Crosswinds, the local RC club, appears willing to let us use the parking lot of their model airfield at night. It's about the size of the Brite Lake Campground lot, is flat, dirt, and has very good (low) horizons. There are no powerlines or houses nearby with lights. The direct lights from town are ok, when the horrendous West Park or Burnett Stadium lights are off. Access is via a half mile dirt road (Neely Ave) from Tucker. It's a decent road that can handle small cars and RVs. Here's a map link: https://goo.gl/maps/dns71bpZwkL2.

I'm thinking we could do a test run next Saturday night, Nov 7th. Nothing huge or widely advertised but open to anyone within earshot. I might send word around at work. Anyone want to join me Saturday the 7th (weather permitting) for a few hours of observing?

Many of us Tehachapi astronomers have a link to the aviation community, myself and Hawk included.  Here's Hawk's Tehachapi Sky Watch about local aviation history.
