I'll be presenting Pimp Your Blogger (A.K.A. Using Blogger in the Classroom) at 21st Century Learning in Hong Kong in March, 2017. Does anyone have some great student blogs they would like me to share during the presentation? Also, if anyone has examples of student portfolios those would be great to share as well. This is a great way to drive some traffic to your students. Finally, will anyone else be at the conference?

Animated Gifs... I have folks asking me how I make them and I use the now retired Snagit Chrome Extension by recording without sound for less than 20 seconds.

Does anyone have a non Snagit Cloud solution to share?

See below...

Thanks in advance!

I use Screenflow to make my animated GIFs... it's a paid product, but the advantage is that you can edit and make things look exactly the way you want. Are there other products that do this that allow editing?

Help get our Hangout Apps back!

If you've ever tried a Hangout on a personal account vs. a work/education account, you can see that all the apps we used to enjoy have been removed. With the recent announcement of the Hangout API being shut down, apps that give us functionality like the lower thirds will likely go away.

So, what can YOU do? Say something.

Using the feedback tool for hangouts, we can let Google know what we want to see in Hangouts. Allo and Duo are Google's answer to iMessages, but it currently only works on mobile devices.

So, what should we say? Well, here's a message that you can quickly copy/paste into the feedback windows for Hangouts:

Functions I'd like to see in Google Hangouts:

1. Lower thirds. Whether in a private video call or a Hangout on Air, the ability to easily see the name of the person speaking is extremely imporant.

2. Soft focus background. Great for busy backgrounds, this allows for a sharp focus on the speaker while everything around was out of focus.

3. Bring back/keep Google Effects. Many people don't like using video conferencing because they can see themselves on screen. However, wearing a silly hat goes a long way to breaking down their reluctance.

Where to find feedback:

New Hangouts: Select Feedback from the menu (three dots in top right)
Old Hangouts: Question mark in the bottom left corner

I bought the AZ screen recorder and I am very happy with it. However if you want to record a game, one can now use the recording option right out of "Google Play game Services"

Record your game with Google Play Games
Use the Google Play Games app to record and share your gameplay. Upload your recording to YouTube to show your friends and grow your audience. You can also record your voice or reactions as you play.

Record your gameplay
Open the Play Games app Google Play Games.
Select a game to open the game details page.
At the top of the game details page, touch the record icon record.
Select your desired video quality setting. You can record in 480p SD or 720p HD.
Based on your device's available storage space, we'll show you the maximum video length that you can record.
Touch Launch to start your game. You'll see a floating video bubble appear with recording settings.
Touch the record icon record.
After a 3-second countdown, your recording will begin.

In a world of algorithms where the sophisticated digital curation of social media, news, blogs, and video feeds can be manipulated to match an individual’s perspective, the challenges we face as educators are immense.

Tip!

Share the EXPLORE Tools with your colleagues and students.

When I began sharing the news, that the EXPLORE tools reintroduced citation feature in December 2016, it amazed me how many didn't even know about the Research tool which was available for several years.

As experienced 'Googlers' we may believe certain features are known by ALL, aka not worth mentioning. I encourage you to share the EXPLORE tool with your colleagues and students. Show how it easily allows you to search the web within the scope of a document and cite sources (footnotes) via MLA, APA or even Chicago.

This could be your 10 minute tech tip at a staff meeting or even a post to your local list serv.

If you have time, share a document with everyone and crowd-source thinking ~ how it can help with learning , research and pre-writing (to name a few).

A simple treasure, apparently, overlooked by many!

has anybody else noticed that there is an option in the google domain which makes it possible for Russians to choose Russian servers. this is exactly what Germany needs to create the legal necessities for teachers to use G suite for EDU there.
I used to be so motivated for fighting for GAFE in Germany, but several reason have made me loose motivation (& self esteem)
GEG Germany is dying ......
