I need me some makeup like hers

Okay. so I had a freshwater snail in a 20 gallon tank along with 3 other goldfish. A shubunkin, telescope and a common goldfish. Each goldfish is about 3 inches and my common is about 4. I recently went on vacation and left somebody to feed them once a day versus 3. That was the best I could do, we all had a busy schedule. I left for about 4 days only and when I came back they were so hungry. I immediately fed them and watched them eat. I looked around for the snail and couldn't find it anywhere I thought he might've been hiding. After 30 minutes I checked again and he still was no where to be seen. The gravel I put in is not even 2 inches tall so i don't think it would dig under the rocks. I looked near a plastic plant in the tank and I see its shell. Empty. What?? I was so confused and decided to open the lid and start looking for him. I washed my hands and put them in moving the rocks and plants to try and look for him. He was no where. Then i saw a small piece of him floating. Did one of my fish eat him? and how??? Aren't snails supposed to hide in their shells how did my fish manage to get him out. I am so confused and feel very sorry for him. My older goldfish Gilbert, has been acting a little weird and is barley eating. I feel like he had something to do with this. Can someone please explain to me what you think happened I am so confused at everything.

Im a little concerned about him, his fins have been clamped a lot lately and he has the dark spots/ streaks on him, I don't know if this is an urgent problem, and P.S when I go by him his fins aren't clamped any more; so I don't know if that is something that you should hear about. Anyways please tell me whats going on, its worrying me because I had a smaller comet Goldfish and he had those spot before he passed. I had also changed the water to make sure the ammonia levels aren't too high.
