Hi Everyone! I'm trying to see if there is enough interest to want a place where we can all congregate and watch Google I/O together! If you're keen please sign up here and share it with your friends! The event is open to anyone! I know its on facebook but its the easiest way to reach people still unfortunately!  #io14extended

Hi all, attendance has been a bit low at the past two meetups and we are wondering why.

Are people not getting notifications about the events? Are the topics not interesting? Are you bored with the group? Something else?

Please let us know in the comments below.

Yes! We'll be meeting at +Hapara - Powering Google Apps again this month.

I imagine the plan will be to talk over some of the news that has come out of IO14.

Is anyone planning on entering hackakl? I think I have a few friends I'm entering with but totally would be cool to have more experienced people to work with!

There's another Coursera course for Android development, this one digging deeper into all the programming aspects. Seems pretty solid so far - the first week covered Activities and the activity lifecycle in depth, second week is covering Intents, Permissions, and Fragments. You can still join and get full credit (first quiz and homework that count are due Friday, NZ time).

Is anyone else taking the Coursera Android class? I've learned a lot from the videos and assignments, would love to hear what others are doing for their creative assignments.

Hi,

#IO14 is in a couple of weeks. Is anyone going from GDG Auckland?

At this stage (< 2 weeks out!) I think it's probably a whole lotta headache to organise that, if I were to be granted a code. I'll be going to the I/O Extended with GDG Waterloo, though :)

Edit: They're all long gone anyway!

Hope everyone is enjoying dealing with the Heartbleed OpenSSL bug announced yesterday. If so, you should apply for the below job! If not, or ops isn't your thing, we're looking for pure front and back-end developers too. And if you're you're not sure what I'm talking about but would like to learn, you should apply too!

On a more serious note, we're doing some pretty cutting edge stuff in an industry that is going to change the world, and now looking to grow our team with some awesome developers!

As well as the linked back-end roll:

we also have a front end javascript roll available:

With Thursday being a holiday and people going away (and nothing arranged yet) we've decided not to have an event this month.  Please let people know (especially those not in the community).

+Richard Foster is planning to present in March though so we'll see you then.

Coursera is offering a free course on Android apps: https://class.coursera.org/androidapps101-001/class/index This looks like it'll be a great course for anyone who hasn't done a lot of Android development so far. It's just starting the second week, so good time to jump in if you're interested.

Hi, just a quick intro. I run a small iOS & cloud consulting company in Auckland and have a couple of clients at the moment that require some Android contractors.

1: ongoing Android work for a set of travel apps. The initial apps have been built and just require updating and improvements.

2: Android development of a video viewing App, plus backup resource for current J2EE backend dev, so prefer someone with deep Java and video experience.

IF your keen drop me a line and I will fed you on.

I'd be interested in giving it a go. I also have an idea for a fun web-app utilising Google's Prediction and Youtube APIs however happy to work on either idea. Flick me an email if you're interested > jp@kenifix.com
