Shamal Wind Dust Storm

In this animation of images taken February 18th, 2017 by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard the Aqua and Terra satellites you can see a dust storm (https://goo.gl/7obWZr), caused by a Shamal (https://goo.gl/7yZxNB), a northwesterly wind blowing over Iraq and the Persian Gulf states, moving over the area.

The images were taken roughly three hours apart.

Full-size animation can be seen and downloaded here on Flickr, additionally, the two still images are available for download:

Aqua (EOS PM-1) and Terra (EOS AM-1) satellite

The Terra and Aqua satellites are part of the Earth Observing System (EOS, https://goo.gl/XYed36), their Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) can take measurements in 36 spectral bands ranging in wavelength from 0.4 µm to 14.4 µm.
