If you've been arrested for a non-violent crime, and are deemed in need of mental health help or substance abuse treatment, as a Veteran, instead of going through the criminal justice system, you may be eligible for the Veterans Treatment Court. Here is a map of all the Veterans Treatment Courts as of 2 years ago...it may have changed since then, so do your research. If you do not have one in your area, contact your VA. They have something called a Veteran Justice Outreach program. This program works with the Veteran and the court system in order to ensure that the Veteran gets the help and resources that they need.

if you can't find your medals
if you served and have a DD 214(or equivalent for older veterans) the United States Archives will give you a complete set of medals that you have earned for free. Go online and check it out! In addition if you have any family members record of service, you can also request their medals as well.
