12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.12:8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;12:9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;12:10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:12:12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.12:11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.12:14 For the body is not one member, but many.12:15 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?12:16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?12:17 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?12:18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.12:19 And if they were all one member, where were the body? 1 Corinthians

Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.

SCRIPTURE READING: 2 Samuel 6: 1-11

They set the Ark of God on a new cart and brought it from the house of Adinadad which was on the hill. - 2 Samuel 6:3

God caused untold suffering on the Philistines because of the Ark they had taken away and placed in the shrine of Dagon their god. Dagon’s head and hands broke off as it fell face down before the Ark of the LORD. Panic stricken; they sent the Ark back to Jerusalem.

David found it fitting to send the Ark to Jerusalem. Thirty thousand men had to accompany the Ark with songs, harps, lyres, and tambourines- in praises to God. But all these did not please God. David violated the law concerning the Ark. The Ark was to be carried on the shoulders by the Kohathites because they were responsible.

Uzzah reached out his hand to steady the Ark which seemed to be falling. He died instantly. Bible calls his behavior an “IRREVERENT ACT”.

David was doing the right thing by bringing the Ark of the Lord back to Jerusalem. But he did not act according to God’s own instructions. He went the way of the Philistines, who carried the Ark on a new cart.

It is dangerous to go the way of the Philistines - the unbelievers - we must go into the Scriptures to confirm our actions in whatever we do.

May the Holy Spirit continue to be our Teacher.

What holy things of God do I carelessly handle?

May your grace and mercy continue to abide with us so that we are not consumed by our anger, in Jesus name. Amen.

Holiness unto the LORD!

SCRIPTURE READING: 1 Samuel 4: 1-11

Let us bring the Ark of the Lord’s covenant from Shiloh so that it may go with us and save us from the hand of our enemies. - 1 Samuel 4: 3 (NIV)

Israel went to battle with the Philistines and had a very terrible defeat. “Why did the LORD bring defeat upon us today before the Philistines” was their cry. So without soberly reflecting on the cause of their defeat, they decided to take the Ark of God’s covenant to the battle front in order to bring them victory. The ark of the LORD’S covenant stands for:
• The presence of God
• The power of God and
• The glory of God.

They did not ask of the LORD. This was the counsel of men and not of God. The result of this action was more terrible. The Ark was captured and the two sons of Eli- Hophni and Phinehas died. Thirty thousand foot soldiers died.

Which people went to Shiloh to bring the Ark? How did they handle the Ark? In Numbers 7:9, the Bible states that the Kohathites were to carry on their shoulders the holy things, for which they were responsible. God’s presence and glory cannot dwell with sin and therefore Israel had the first defeat because of sin.

Instead of humbling themselves before the Lord in repentance, they relied on the counsel of men to cause the Ark to be captured and sent to the house of Dagon- the god of the Philistines.

Obedience is rewarded by God’s blessing. Disobedience brings the wrath of God. May the Holy Spirit lead us to do the right thing.

• How do I handle the holy things of God?
• Am I living in sin and pretending that all is well?

Thank you, Lord Jesus for Your redeeming love. May Your name be praised. Amen.
