Holy crap, these bionic arms look just like Doc Ock's

Designed by German engineering firm Festo, these claw-tipped, artificially intelligent arms were designed to mimic the utility and movement of an elephant's trunk – but the resemblance to Dock Ock's writhing limbs is just uncanny.

I have created InMoov's parts under Blender, an Open source modelling software. The Makerbot2 is a nice machine if you only want to use PLA. For a prosthetic limb I would print in ABS or even better in Nylon. PLa is very brittle. and disolve with water. (after a long period) You should post on the forum if you have more questions, because I don't always check the comments on the videos. InMoov.blogspot.com. Please remember InMoov is under a non commercial license., but you don't plan to produce it for sale, I guess.

Just uploaded stl files for an open source robot arm. It works well with laser cut pieces but I'd love to see a 3D printed version http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:298820

Robotic arms have never been easier with a 3D printer.

When I was young, I really liked playing with Legos, and eventually got some "expert builder" ones you can actually make just about anything out of (now often called technic). In college I built an inkjet printer out of these Legos and some electronics I built.

But this is amazing -- whole working robotic human hand out of Legos! What amazing mechanical Lego creations have you seen?
