Giles Duley began his career as a fashion photographer. When it was time for a change he found himself on a journey of war and hardship. A tragic accident while on assignment in Afghanistan left him as a triple amputee. Listen to his moving Ted Talk on loosing and finding himself through the experience: http://bit.ly/1zBgUWO

I became an LAKA Feb. 19th, 2014.  I was active before all the health issues and I managed to keep active during my two years of surgeries (I had a rare bone tumor on the Proximinal Tibia).  I kept active in the gym for as long as I could and as well in the pool.  I had to stop both about 9 months prior to my surgery as it was a very complicated time with surgery rejections, infections and revisions to the ultimate cut...

As soon as I got the OK to get back into the pool...I was there!!  Found out that it also helps the phantom pain...and it felt so good to be back in the water.  It was the only place that I did not feel "handicapped" AT ALL!!!!

I was 9 months post-op just this past 19th...I feel G-R-E-A-T!

My goal for the summer is to do my first TRIATHLON....just have to decide "how" am I going to do this....the swim part is easy (no leg).  The bike portion I have to decide: hand bike or regular bike?  Then once I decide that then that will determine the run portion:  hand bike->wheelchair (no leg) or regular bike->run with a leg or crutches and no leg......SUCH DECISIONS!!

Hey all my ampupeeps! (still working on that one)

I've started a blog about getting active again after amputation, with a focus on cycling, are there any objections to posting links to blog posts here?
