Hi! I'm new to Google Cardboard, but I have permission to try it out with a class of lower school students. I'd like to try to link it to history. Does anyone know of any expeditions to a historical place? Thanks in advance for the help!

Hey Darla - There are a TON of historical options. Be careful with the younger kids as they don't always think to put the device down if they are getting motion sickness and they DO throw up! Also be careful if you are using the cardboards - since the sides of the cardboards are not closed, if the kids tilt their heads sideways, the phone can fall out - I'd recommend you put a strap or something around the edges to keep the phones in place. Anyway, the kids will have a lot of fun and I'm sure you will too! Here is the current list of Expeditions: [Expeditions] - List of available Expeditions

We are hoping to purchase the Google Expeditions set from Best Buy. Does anyone know if the teacher devices comes with all the expeditions currently available? Additionally, as more field trips are added does the app get the updates?

Krista - All of the Google Expeditions are FREE! :) You don't have to buy anything in order to access them. The Best Buy set is expensive and, in my opinion, not worth it. You end up paying a lot for the Pelican case which, unless you are traveling, you really don't need. The Expeditions App gets updates and it remains free. Really good stuff!! I did a conference workshop on using Expeditions on the cheap - hope this helps some! Feel free to ask more questions! :)

I have VR technology in my classroom, but need a way to get it on the big screen. I have an Android Samsung S5 and we tried working with Vysor and could not get it to connect. What would be the easiest way to screen cast what is on my phone to my projector..want to make sure all are on the right place on Expeditions and then we can all see.

Ideas and Free apps would be great!

Anyone with VR content creation skills could help ?

My project as a teacher and google enthusiast would be to give ownership for students of our school to take part in a week long community project to present historical content and feature current lifestyle. Students would present and create content in VR using their own device and using a Ricoh Theta S about various place in collaboration with Media Studies teachers, the Tourism Board and other local partners, in a possibly 5 min long video. Students will get familiar with VR content creation and would also use the Google Classroom, etc. up to the finished product therefore developing 21th century google skills . Would it be something that could be possible and would you have any advice for the software and hardware necessary ? and any information and tips on to apply to creating content for Google Expedition? Anyone has this kind of experience or knows if google are likely to support?

Ok.... this has become a labor of love! I have created a data base of over 125 virtual field trip opportunities and just over 100 of them are free! Feel free to add to the list, make a copy, or share it out! If you use any of these, I would love to get feedback as well! Enjoy!

Cardboard presenters??
I'd be extremely surprised if this hasn't been asked in the past, but is there a resource, GGroup, organization, or black hole on the Internet I have yet to find where I can locate presenters that will bring a cart full of cardboard & devices to a school to do class sized presentations?
Yes, Cardboard is cheap enough that we could get a set for everyone in school. The problem is that devices aren't, and certainly not cheap enough to buy a bunch to use for a one-off lesson a couple of times a year. We have a couple of teachers interested in things like expeditions, but one or two right now that would really love to get a classroom full of kids playing with tilt brush.
Any leads would be helpful. THANKS!

Or, for that matter, I've done workshops at NSTA and for individual teachers and in classes using Expeditions - if you can secure a set, I'd be happy to talk to you about leading some sessions for you.

Very exciting use case of VR: Students from Cape Town, South Africa, designed what a worn-down district could look like in 2020 if you turned it into an eco-friendly neighborhood – and then explored their creations in virtual reality.

CoSpaces English Project

I'm wrapping up a CoSpaces project with a grade 8 English class reading "To Kill a Mockingbird" and I put together this project page.

Student project links, planning document, and checklist included.

This type of project could easily be applied to other grade levels and other books!

Anyone have a presentation or informational ideas on how to get parents excited about VR in the classroom? Have a parent tech night on the 10th of January...and want to show, experience, and play...but will not have much time.

Thanks for all of your help with this.

I have 25 viewers and 5 devices that I can use.

Give the parents a mini lesson of what you'd be doing with the kids. That could lead up to the hands on.
