Conversions for Metamorphosis Alpha and Gamma World

When I saw this robot drawing, I knew I had to stat it right away.

Adventures can start/end/contain seemingly mundane moments. Fleshing out the small things can lead to new ideas and adventures.

ROBOTIC UNIT TYPE: Alco-Bot
NUMBER APPEARING: 1
ARMOR CLASS: 4
HIT DICE: 10
HIT POINTS: 30
HEIGHT: 2 meters
MASS: 175

MOVEMENT RATE AND SYSTEM: .5 KPH on two bipedal legs

POWER SOURCES: Broadcast Power, Solar Cell

SENSOR SYSTEMS: Standard, Infrared , Ultraviolet, Microscopic (x 100), Telescopic (x 100), Olfactory sensors, Audio and Radio Transmitter/Receiver effective up to 1 kilometer

CONTROL: Vocal (no I.D. needed), Standard Electronic, Programmed

UNIT SYSTEMS: Two arms able to lift 75 kg each. (That is a full beer kg under each arm.) Two legs for walking at a average human walking speed. It's bulbous body contains system to draw water out of the air and store two gallons within it. There is beverage-synthesizer capable of creating any programmed alchohol or non-alchohol drink. A glass replicator and recycler is included along with a nitrogen based cooler for frosting mugs and creating ice. There is an internal blender. There is a small heating element for warming drinks. Six drink dispensers line the front for "on tap" service. Each thumb contains a lighter. A large speaker is located on the front to play any programmed music.

UNIT DESCRIPTION: Resembling a rotund bartender/waiter and programmed to dispense any drink, the alco-bot was indispensable to social gathers before the Apocalypse. It will agreeably and attentively nod it's head while refilling your drink. With it's Olfactory sensors, it can tell when to precisely cut you off - although with programming that can be over ridden. It will only serve coffee if you have reached your limit. If your drink is preferred stirred, the unit will quickly spin like a top. If you prefer it shaken it will do a perform a little jig - or kick it up a notch and start a conga line. Most anything to keep patrons happy and buying drinks.

It can also be programmed to keep track of a patron's tab and summon a bouncer-bot if necessary.

With space travel common before the Apocalypse, it's possible Earth attracted the attention of galactic neighbors. Or perhaps Gamma World adventurers are transported on to a generation ship or to another planet.
I've often thought elements of the "The Dragon Masters" could be nicely woven into a Metamorphosis Alpha/Gamma World adventure!

The Dragon Masters, written by Jack Vance and illustrated by Jack Gaughan was first published in the August 1962 issue of Galaxy Magazine. It was released as a novel by Ace Books in 1963, with the cover by Jack Gaughan. It won the Hugo Award for 1963.

The men, of the planet Aerlith, have warred for centuries with the reptilian race called “Basics”, of the planet Coralyne. The winner of each bloody encounter has made slaves of the loser—but in this far-future conflict each side improves its slaves with genetic engineering. On Aerlith, men have bred Basics into fearsome troops. On Coralyne, Basics have developed grotesque mutant human warriors.

While the novel has been released many times with different covers by different artists, the original illustrations by the late and great Jack Gaughan really captured a truly unique look for the dragons. He did not get hung up on the word "dragons", and delivered reptilian/bug (and completely alien looking) illustrations with energetic pen and ink that were true to Vance's story.

[ I would have loved to seen Gaughan work in various early RPGs. We get a hint from his illustrations for the "uauthorized" Ace versions of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.]

Here are the two covers.

Following this posting, I'll be posting my attempt to STAT THAT! the dragons and human mutants*

STAT THAT! 001
The Dragon Masters to Metamorphosis Alpha/Gamma World 1 of 12

NAME: Grephs (Basics)
NUMBER: 2d6
MORALE: 2d4
HIT DICE: 10d6
ARMOR: 4

LAND SPEED: 12/900/18

MS: 1d12 +11
IN: 1d12 +11
DX: 3d6
CH: 3d6
CN: 3d6
PS: 3d6

ATTACKS:
1 bite (1d4)
2 claws (1d4 each)
1 tail-slap (opponent must make a d20 saving throw against their Dexterity or be knocked down)

MUTATIONS:
Heightened Balance, Heightened Intelligence, Genius Capability (Mechanical Genius)

DESCRIPtiON:
Grephs think of themselves as "The Revered". Their entire philosophy is predicated on a series of predestined events described in a way similar to the mathematics of quantum mechanics. Some events and outcomes – such as being captured – are forbidden for the Revered. They are therefore forced to conclude that they are not Revered and must be some other kind of creature altogether.

The grephs are described as "standing on two legs, with two versatile members at mid-body, a pair of multi-articulated brachs at the neck", indicating that they have six limbs. As they provided the original breeding stock for the Dragons, they are also called Basics.

Note:
All Basics and Dragons stock have Heightened Balance due to having six legs. Also, this allows them to have two attacks per turn.
