Hi Guys,

I read the "NSX design guide v3" and more precisely the part "Slicing Controller Cluster Nodes Roles (p16)".

However , I have not managed to get all the informations and that's why i want to ask you a couple of questions about communications between NSX Controller nodes and any Esxi host :

- Can anybody tell me when is established a control-plane connection between a host and a controller node ?
- Who initiate the connection ? A host or one controller node ?
- And how is established this connection ?

Furthermore, let's assume that one controller node own the logical switch VNI 5000.
show control-cluster logical-switches vni 5000
show control-cluster logical-switches connection-table 5000
show control-cluster logical-switches vtep-table 5000

Only that controller node will give you these 3 informations about that Logical Switch 5000, right ?
These 3 commands will not work on any other controller nodes part of the cluster.

So, my questions are :
- What happend in case of failure of one controller node ? I know that the slices owned by the old one controller node are reassigned to an other controller node. But How ?
- How the controller nodes are synchronized between them ?
- At what frequency ?

Thank you :)

In 2015 I managed to pump out 110 Posts (including this one) which meant I achieved

For virtualization system admins coming into virtualized networking, "simple" stuff like adding static routes can leave you scratching your head... this might be helpful
http://virtualizationgains.com/nsx/nsx-lab-addremove-static-routes/
In the last post we added an ESG, but still need to configure routing that allows our vm web-1 172.16.10.10/24 to reach the vyos/physical router 192.168.100.1/24 First up open an ssh session…

Last week I posted a tweet saying “Friends don’t let friends delete the NSX-v VTEP PortGroup” and as most of us do in our industry we learn by doing and I found out the hard way that you shouldn’t mess with the PortGroup created during the Host Preparation of the NSX setup and configuration stage. This PortGroup is used by

Last week VMware released version 6.2.2 of NSX-v. The 6.2.2 release is mainly aimed at patching a security hole in the glibc libraries as well as removing a constraint with the DHCP Pool setup allowing .local domains in the config and improving the user experience when configuring the Distributed Firewall. Once following the standard NSX Upgrade Process you will see NSX
