Bullets, Phones and Teeth, What Could They Possibly Have in Common, asks Danbury CT dentist Jay M. Marks, DMD

There is a material that is recently discovered, that is the thinnest compound possible known to mankind,  it is one atom thick. It the lightest compound ever discovered, claims Danbury CT #dentist Jay M. Marks, DMD.  It is also the strongest compound ever found, being 100 to 300 times stronger than steel!  It is made up of pure carbon, a single layer of atoms thick,  and its structure is a hexagonal lattice in a honeycomb shape.
Carbon is the 2nd most item in the human body (including #teeth ).  It is also the 4th most common element in the universe.  It is the basis of all life on earth explains Dr. Marks.

So what is this element, and what could make it connect to bullets, phones, and teeth.

The compound is GRAPHENE, recognized in 2004.  Due to its thinness, and strength, and flexibility, it can be used in place of heavier Kevlar- to stop a speeding bullet and save lives.  It is extremely flexible, and Samsung is obtaining patents for use in cell phones (and many other electronics).  It is so light, it will make awesome tennis racquets.  There are unimaginable future uses for this compound.

 PLEASE  + 1

What Oddity Do Teeth and Hair Have in Common? explains Danbury CT dentist, Jay M. Marks, DMD

Through out time, one or the first things noticed about someone is their smile (teeth), and their locks (hair), explains Dr. Marks.  Generally, if you lack either, you may not get a second glance.  Yes,  this is very superficial, but true.  Both are also needed to function.  Teeth are necessary to eat our sustenance, and hair is needed to keep our bodies  warm (the head looses more body heat than anywhere else in our bodies).  Dr. Marks points out that there is a further, most important similarity..................................

...............Neither teeth or hair can heal themselves!  The rest of our bodies can heal themselves.  A broken bone can heal itself. A cut on our skin, forms a scab, while the skin regenerates itself.  Our hair grows from the follicle-roots.  However, when we cut our hair, it can not regenerate itself from where it was cut, since the cells of the hair shaft are biologically dead.

Tooth enamel is formed by ameloblasts.  As the teeth erupt into our mouths, the ameloblasts are lost, therefore enamel can never be reformed.  So, if a tooth is broken, or if a cavity eats away the enamel, there is no natural way for it to regenerate itself.  This is why God created Dentists and barbers!  If you have hair questions, please contact your hair stylist.  If you have any Dental questions, please CONTACT US.

Update on a way to save #teeth without #Surgery (ouch) shown on National TV -explains #Danbury CT dentist Jay M. Marks, DMD

Out last post revealed a procedure that could save teeth without the painful surgical procedures performed for decades by #dentists, involving needles and #sedation or general #anesthesia.  Certainly many people choose this treatment for #gum disease ( #periodontal disease ) explains Danbury CT dentist Jay M.Marks, DMD.

As Dr. Marks explains, the new procedure called #PerioProtect involves wearing custom #dental #trays for a few minutes per day, using one or two medications.  These medications can heal gum #inflamation - #gingivitis -or advanced gum disease - #periodontitis.  This new procedure is so revolutionary, it has appeared on national TV.  The cost makes saving teeth within the reach of almost everybody.  See national TV News Report below.  If you would like to see if you are eligible for this type of treatment, please CONTACT US!

85% of Population Has This Curable Disease, claims Danbury CT dentist Jay M. Marks, DMD

VERY few things affect 85 percent of our population, states #Danbury CT dentist  Jay M. Marks, DMD.  That means that 8.5 people out of ten in a room, have this condition.  Can you imagine those odds in the winning numbers for the lottery, or the chances of living to 100 years old, or your chances of winning a trip to Hawaii, asks Jay M. Marks, DMD.  Well, if this is true, then if the odds are positive, then that is great.  If the odds are for something negative, then these odds are bad!  So what could the condition in this article be, such that 8.5 people out of ten reading this post HAVE it??????

Turns out that is very prevalent condition is #Gum Disease.  There are 2 forms, one affecting just the #gums ( #gingivits ), or involving the supporting bone ( #periodontitis ), where your #teeth can become loose, and then fall out.  There are several ways to treat gum disease.  If the disease has progressed a little, special cleanings may do the trick.  If it has progressed further, periodontal #surgery may be needed.

There is now another alternative, where special trays, which are filled with certain medicine, is worn over the teeth for a short period of time.  Results have shown the gums stop bleeding, and in many cases, the bone starts to grow back!  BEST of all is this treatment is completely painless.  If you would like to see if you are a candidate for this painless treatment, please CONTACT US.  The video below explains the procedure.

Save Your Teeth by Moving to the Holy Land, claims Danbury, CT dentist Jay M. Marks, DMD

No matter what your faith is, or even if you have no faith, there are many reasons to travel to, or even relocate to the Holy Land.  Seeing history, or the beauty of the geography, or the origins of the major religions.  But can one reason be to not to have to worry about #brushing or #flossing your #teeth anymore, asks Dr. Marks?

It turns out that a special virus has been found, (believe it or not), in the sewage found in Jerusalem, claims Dr. Marks.  This research was conducted at the Jerusalem Hebrew University, by the #Dental Medicine faculty.  Tiny viruses named bacterio-phages, were used to infect the bacteria that were found to infect humans.  A particular virus found in the sewerage effluents of a Jerusalem treatment facility, was able to stop infections that resulted from dental procedures and causing the need for #root canal treatments.  These phages targeted Enterococcus faecalis biofilms.  These phages were identified and named EFDG-1, and were found to be effective in the infecting of a strain of Enterococcus faecalis biofilms called V-583.  This bacteria was resistant to the strongest applicable #antibiotic, Vancomycin.

So perhaps a little timeless faith, along with modern medical discoveries, can help you -in addition to brushing and flossing and visiting your dentist!

If you can't make it to Jerusalem, or if you want to go somewhere closer, please CONTACT US.

When should you fire your dentist, asks Danbury CT dentist, Jay M. Marks, DMD

You might be surprised to find out that your #dentist does not have to join their local, or state  society- both of which are components of the American Dental  Association, states Dr. #Marks.  Whether you dentist earns his  degree as a DMD, or DDS, the training in United States  schools is the same.  The training includes #restorative dentistry (fillings), #endodontics (root canals), #periodontics (gum diseases), #oral surgery (extractions and #implants), #orthodontics (tooth straightening), oral pathology (diseases in the mouth), #radiology (x rays), #pedodontics (children's dentistry), and #prosthodontics ( #dentures, #crowns, #bridges).

So if the training is the same, why join the  Associations, asks Dr. Marks..........

Once you graduate  school, the next day there are new advancements in the field of dentistry.  Local, State, and the American Dental Association are the Societies that represents professional memberships for licensed #dentists and their staff.  The  Associations help member dentists stay on top of the latest advances in dentistry, so that they can give their patients the best care available.

The  Associations also lobby local and national governments to pass legislation that  benefit citizen patients.  State Dental Associations, such as the Connecticut State Dental Association, support activities such as the "MOM" - Missions of Mercy, where dentists and other allied dental professionals give free dental care to those in need.  This way access for all citizens to dental care is available.

There recurring monthly and annual meetings for dentists that constantly give continuing education courses, as well as examples of the latest in dental equipment and supplies.  Many study groups are also supported.  The ADA also has a program to endorse consumer dental products, making sure the products are safe and effective.

So........if your dentist is not in his State Dental Association, or the American Dental Association, it doesn't mean he/she can't fill your tooth, or diagnose periodontal disease, but wouldn't you rather have a dentist who was on the cutting edge of his profession, with access to the newest technologies............. We all know the answer.   If you want see a dentist who is a member of his Dental Local, State, and National Associations, please CONTACT US.

IMPLANTS- if they are good enough for Pam Andersson, are they good for you?, asks Danbury, CT dentist Jay M. Marks, DMD

There are times where by accident, or lack of proper care, that one may need help to replace a body part that we were born with, states #Danbury, CT dentist Jay M. #Marks, DMD.  There are other times, that for social reasons, or mental health well being, or by the request of a special partner, that we may consider means to enhance what we do already have.  So what possibly could a dentist be talking about here, asks Dr. Marks

Lets say that due to an accident while roller blading, you knock out a #tooth.  Or due to #dental #decay, a tooth must be taken out.  Or due to #periodontal disease, a tooth fell out.  You would want to replace that messing tooth.  There are options, such as a #bridge, or a #denture, or an #Implant.   Which option is most like your original tooth.

                                   See the video below.

So if you ever need a Pam Anderson type of enhancement or replacement, and if involves the area below your nose, and above your chin, please CONTACT US.

Alert: Cases of Dental Offices Causing Pregnancies Have Been Confirmed, Reports Danbury, CT Dentist Jay M. Marks, DMD

Most patients go to the dentist for semi annual #dental #cleanings, states Dr. Marks.  If you have a #tooth ache, you may go for a #filling.  If the decay is deep, you may need to have a root canal.  If your #gums bleed, you may need #periodontal treatment.  If your tooth can't be saved, you may need #oral surgery.  If you are missing teeth, you may need a #bridge, or #implant, or #dentures.  If your teeth are cooked, you may need #Invisalign invisible #aligners.  But what in the world does going to the #dentist possibly have to do with getting pregnant!

Oral contraceptives are used by millions of women throughout the world, to prevent unintended pregnancies.  There have been reports of possible interactions between these contraceptives, and antibiotics, rendering contraceptives not fully effective, claims Dr. Marks.  The American Dental Association, and the American Medical Association have issued warnings to practitioners to warn patients taking this form of birth control to use additional methods during the course of taking antibiotics.

There are sources that claim that this is a rare occurrence, but it is felt that the patient, (you), should make sure that your dentist is aware of your using that method of birth control, and try alternative methods.  Of course, if you had no need for antibiotics, (I will not chastise you for having a need to take antibiotics), then you would not have to worry about the dentist causing you to get pregnant!  If you need any non pregnancy advice- specifically about your smile, please CONTACT US.
