Hidden gems come from unexpected places. Where are your hidden gems?

Social media marketing uncovers interesting spoils after clearing away the brush.

Thanks Cory and Kate for sharing your story.

A developer is planning an enormous project on Waco's urban waterfront. The $180 million project would provide much-needed housing & entertainment.

We ate downtown for dinner last night, which was the first time we've done so in months, and I noticed Gratziano's was closed.  I found this on the Trib's website - http://www.wacotrib.com/news/159146745.html - which I didn't realize the same company owned Gratzianos, Crickets, and Diamond Backs.

This was one of my favorite places to eat downtown, their pizza buffet was amazing, and dinner menu was quite excellent.  I was only able to frequent there a few times a year, but I hate that it'll no longer be an option.

I just got a Samsung note 2 last month, and even though I have had two phones with a '8MP' camera, I have to say the note 2 takes the best phone pics I've ever seen, they rival my fuji not quite SLR easily, only the true zoom is missing. I didn't take these with my Note 2, but I have been taking a lot and the pictures there just astounding. The burst mode as been really useful as well. Since I have a 75GB google drive that auto uploads, I'll be posting some of the better pictures here.

Statues near the Waco Suspension bridge, paying tribute to its former purpose of being a great point to cross the Brazos River for commerce, instead of todays purpose of walking between parks.

ok maybe we can't be all positive here? Even Burger King advertises that they filter their water for drinks. While the water has gotten better over the last 2 years, it still has a bit of funk in the flavor at times!

I'm quite sure Brita, Zerowater and Pur love Waco!

Meerkat at the zoo. Awesome little creatures, why don't they replace dogs and cats? :)

I agree there are plenty of things going on in Austin or Dallas, but Waco isn't as stagnant as some make it out to be.  Unfortunately though there's no properly maintained citywide calendar of events that encompasses everything at MCC, TSTC, Baylor, The Civic Theater, Community Band, WSO, and so many other places that offer free to cheap events to attend.  And each of the bars, cafes, and many restaurants offer live music weekly which again never makes it onto a community calendar.

And I agree completely that folks who say there's nothing to do can "make something happen", great phrase :-D  I'm sure most folks have niche hobbies that could easily turn into a club or organization if they didn't mind being the linchpin to get it started.  The whole "if you build it they will come" mentality does work, and surprisingly well in a town the size of Waco.

Be on the lookout for these tiny Dik-Dik at the Zoo! They are generally in the same area as the Kori Bustard birds
