Trusting In The Names Of God — A Quiet Time Experience
Online Bible Studies with Catherine Martin
WEEK EIGHT — Behold His Beauty with the Disciples Who Walked with God

Did you know that you have a light to guide you that no one can extinguish?

Yes, it is true.

The Word of God is “a lamp for your feet and a light for your path” (Psalm 119:105).

As you live in God’s Word, the Lord reveals Himself to you and leads and guides you in life. The more you know His names, the more you will trust Him (Psalm 9:10). The more you know His promises, the more you will hope (Romans 15:4). And the more you study God’s Word, the stronger will be your faith (Romans 10:17).

Oh, the Word of God is such a strong beacon of light, like a lighthouse shining on a dark night out on the ocean.

As we close our study of Trusting In The Names Of God – A Quiet Time Experience, in Week Eight we had the opportunity to walk with the disciples on their journey with Jesus. When we look at Jesus, we can know what God is like, for He is Emmanuel, God with us.

The most profound truth this week for me was that to look at Jesus is to behold the glory of God. And now, Jesus resides in us through the power of the Holy Spirit, so the glory we see never fades, but shines on and on. And someday, we shall see His face in all His glory. Hallelujah!

Dear friend, it has been a privilege to study God’s Word together with you.

Let us all take to heart the words at the end of Day 5 in Week Eight —
Never allow any area of your Bible to remain buried and unknown to you. Instead, resolve to continue the journey every day and live in every corner of God’s Word. Set aside a time, choose a quiet place, and sit with the Lord each day with an open Bible and an open heart.
Catherine Martin

I remember when the Lord impressed me with the great privilege we have in studying God’s Word and I don’t want to miss one day of living in it that I may know God more intimately and love Him with all my heart.

As always, I want you to know that my prayer and my goal for all of us is found in Psalm 9:10 —
And those who know Your name will put their trust in You, for You, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.
Psalm 9:10

Lord, we pray now that we will know Your names and put our trust in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God bless you, dear friend, and may you be filled with trust as you discover who God is, what God says, and what God does in His names.
♥ Catherine

LOOKING TO THE LORD

My eyes are ever on the LORD… Psalm 25:15 NIV

A.W. Tozer writes: “When we lift our inward eyes to gaze upon God we are sure to meet friendly eyes gazing back at us, for it is written that the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the earth. The sweet language of experience is “Thou God seest me.” When the eyes of the soul looking out meet the eyes of God looking in, heaven has begun right here on this earth. Trusting In The Names Of God — A Quiet Time Experience
Online Bible Studies with Catherine Martin
WEEK SEVEN — Behold His Beauty With Jesus, the Son of God

Have you learned to be still and know your God?

One of the greatest lessons we learn from looking at the life of Jesus is His intimacy with the Father.

He took time to be alone in prayer, pouring out His heart to the Father.

In Mark 1:35 we learn that “in the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there.”

Time alone with God is such a secret to knowing and trusting Him more.

You can’t trust what you don’t know. And you can’t know a person without spending time with them.

Everything in our world clamors for attention. Time alone with God involves intention and a resolute heart to draw near to Him.

I love the words of Tozer this week —
May not the inadequacy of much of our spiritual experience be traced back to our habit of skipping through the corridors of the Kingdom like children through the market place, chattering about everything, but pausing to learn the true value of nothing.
A.W. Tozer

I pray that we will be the ones to step away from the clamoring crowd, grab our Bibles, and draw near to God.

There is only one more week of study in Trusting in the Names of God — A Quiet Time Experience. May you draw near to your Lord and know Him more intimately this week.

They saw Him, walked with Him and beheld His glory. I will meet you back here with a final post and discussion questions on Saturday, May 6, 2017.

SOLA SCRIPTURA DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

As you studied God’s word in Week Seven, what impressed you about Jesus and His relationship with the Father? How did this week of study encourage your relationship with the Lord? YOU ARE LOVED BY GOD

Now we call Him, “Abba, Father.” For His Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. Romans 8:15-16 NLT

Because of our new relationship with God through Christ, we may employ this display of affection, this expression of endearment, Abba, Father. Imagine—in addition to trusting in all the other names of God, we also have the privilege of addressing God as Papa, Daddy, Father. What can that mean except we have now been ushered into an even more intimate relationship with our God. WHEN YOU WANT TO SEE THE LORD

No man has ever seen God at any time; the only unique Son, or the only begotten God, Who is in the bosom [in the intimate presence] of the Father, He has declared Him [He has revealed Him and brought Him out where He can be seen; He has interpreted Him and He has made Him known]. John 1:18 AMP

This is the encouragement from Jesus: Know Me. And then you will realize you have seen the Lord. The deity of Christ is a profound truth to realize and comprehend. He is who He claimed to be—God incarnate. What does that really mean? If you want to know what God is like, look at Jesus, for John tells us that Jesus is the explanation of God (John 1:18). The feet of God Himself trod the earth for all of mankind to watch and contemplate and comprehend. BEHOLD THE BEAUTY OF THE LORD

Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly. Matthew 11:29-30 MSG

Jesus shows us the heart of God. He is the true explanation of God. No time is ever wasted gazing at the beauty of Christ, for each second spent looking at Him affords a deeper intimacy with God. Ask the Lord now to open your eyes that you might behold His beauty. WEEK FIVE — Behold His Beauty With The Prophets Who Spoke For God

Do you realize that God is real and present?

It seems like a strange question. But I remember hearing someone once say that many people live life as practical atheists. In other words, they say they believe in God but act as though God is not really present or at work in their lives.

I cherish the memory of a crisp fall morning at sunrise in Glacier National Park, Montana, USA. I was with a group of photographers that included my mentor and Nikon legend, Bill Fortney (His Light Workshops) and Dr. Charles Stanley (beloved pastor and author). I was so excited to be included in this once-in-a-lifetime spiritual and educational experience. There we were in a beautiful setting to capture images of Saint Mary Lake just as the sun was rising. I was so aware that God was there with us. That God was the one in control of everything. The entire experience brought great a refreshing to my heart.

There is a promise in Acts 3:19 that tells us “times of refreshing come from the presence of the Lord.”

And oh, how true it is. We need to be aware that God is present. And He is at work in our lives.

This week in our study in Trusting In The Names Of God, we studied the names of God revealed to the prophets. And front and center was God’s presence and the reality of Him in our lives. Ezekiel discovered Yahweh Shammah, the Lord is there. The Lord is here, even now, as He lives in us and makes His home in us.

Jesus made it perfectly clear that there would come a time when He would live in us —
Jesus answered him, “If anyone really loves me, he will observe my teaching, and my Father will love him, and both of us will come in face-to-face fellowship with him; yes, we will make our special dwelling place with him.”
John 14:23 Williams

This is a powerful truth and one that impacts us every moment of our days. There is no time when He is not present and active in our lives. We don’t always realize it. But regardless of our own awareness, the truth of it remains.

Alan Redpath describes the battle of David and Goliath and what made the difference in David’s perspective —
How few of His people really believe that He is the God of today, that He is a present, living power in our hearts! In Saul’s mind, God was absent from the whole conflict; He didn’t enter into it. But in David’s mind, God was the greatest reality of all.
Alan Redpath

These are good words for us today to apply in our lives. Let us know and believe and act on the fact that God is present and that He is the God of today. He is Yahweh Shammah, the Lord is there. Yes, He is living in us and He is our very life (Galatians 2:20).

YOUR ASSIGNMENT

Your assignment this next week is to study Week 7, Days 1-6, Behold His Beauty With Jesus, The Son Of God. In our seventh week of study we are going to see who God really is by looking at the Lord Jesus Christ. We learn that in Hebrews 1 that Jesus is the exact representation of God and in John 1:18 that Jesus has “explained” God to us. I’m so excited to see all that we are going to discover about God in this coming week. I will meet you back here with a new post and discussion question on Saturday, April 29, 2017.

SOLA SCRIPTURA DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

As you studied God’s word in Week Six, what impressed you about the prophets and their relationship with God? Who was your favorite prophet and why? What was your favorite name of God this week? And what did you learn that is helping you to trust God more? Finally, what was your favorite verse, insight, photograph, or quote?

YOUR HEART CHRIST'S HOME

For we are the temple of the living God. As God said: “I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be My people. 2 Corinthians 6:16

The name Yahweh Shammah [the Lord is there] speaks of the glorious presence of God Himself. In fact, through the indwelling Holy Spirit, we may even now experience His glorious presence, for He dwells in us. Just think—our hearts are His home, where the soles of His feet now tread. GOD IS IN CONTROL

Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is Yours, O LORD, and this is your kingdom. We adore You as the one who is over all things. 1 Chronicles 29:11 NLT

Has your life ever gone in a completely unexplainable direction, causing a devastating disappointment or the dashing of a dream? If so, you need to know and trust in El Elyon, “God Most High.” Trusting in El Elyon gives you the security of knowing that God is sovereign and perfectly in control. What seems like a devastating turn of events may be understood as a bend in the road, taking you in a direction that ultimately, because of the sovereign hand of El Elyon, will lead to God’s glory. Man’s actions always play into the hands of El Elyon. Quoted from Trusting In The Names Of God - A Quiet Time Experience by Catherine Martin (http://www.quiettime.org/online-store/tngaqte-book/)
