John William Godward (1861 - 1922)
The Tambourine Girl, 1906

I love how he painted the female form and the placement and movement of fabric against it. Gorgeous.

Diego Rivera (1886 - 1957)
El Vendedor de Alcatraces, 1942

It is said that the calla lilies in many of Rivera's paintings - in this kind of depiction of overwhelming weight on the vendor's back - symbolize the burden of the monied class (those who enjoy the lilies) on the working class (those who grow, pick and sell them).

Bernardino Luini (1485 - 1532)
The Virgin Holding the Sleeping Child with St. John and Two Angels

Have I shared this before? I'm not sure. But it's one of my favorite Madonna and Child paintings. Gorgeous.
