Boat Knives. I consider myself very fortunate to be able to make a living with some of the things I like the most ; boats and knives .This is my first attempt at trying to combine them . A knife may be a sailor's most important tool. A knife can be a lifesaving tool to carry on board, but it's also practical for everyday use on deck. From cutting a piece of tape or a small line, to freeing a jammed halyard to prevent serious damage to the boat, a knife's use on board range from the banal to lifesaving. It also keeps you company when walking alone on strange places .
I made Three designs , in modern and traditional materials .I was told by friends and critics to name them , so straining my creativity I came up with this names ; Capitan , Marino and Grumette .I pay particular attention to safety , wet hands can lose their grip on a slippery knife handle , this three knives are design to stay in your hand .They all provide for a very secure , strong grip .
They also have a lanyard long enough so that when you remove the knife you can extend your arm full length. If you drop them , they wont hit the deck (or your foot ).
The traditional models are made with stabilize woods, the leather sheaths and lanyards are hot waxed .The modern ones have kirinite handles and kydex sheaths (water is not a factor). The steel I used was 440c and they are heat treated to 56-58 Rkwl .I also fitted them with titanium Marlin spikes .Here are some pics , please let me know your opinion or suggestions .Thanks
