Old Faithful Inn, 1926 and Oct. 2011, a bustling place in both eras! I set up my camera with a remote to get a picture of myself taking a photo of one of today's ubiquitous yellow touring cars. Its predecessor is the one in the middle of the historic image, an original White Motor Company auto bus.

Grand Teton visitors may want to note that the Hermitage Point Trail (http://www.tetonhikingtrails.com/hermitage-point.htm) in the Colter Bay area has been temporarily closed to protect wildlife. There are also temporary closures in effect in and around the Colter Bay Campground area.

The 1888 image shows a buggy on an old road below Golden Gate in Yellowstone. The forest was then recovering from an 1882 fire. See the boulder behind the mules? Look for it today almost completely hidden in trees that have grown since the more recent 1988 fires. Yellowstone’s natural cycle of fire and forest growth is clearly seen in these 2 images. From the book “Yellowstone Yesterday & Today” by Paul Horsted and Bob Berry. Samples from the book at www.dakotaphoto.com.
