Does 'Online PR' exist any more?

That's the question asked by +Econsultancy's +Ian McKee. Personally I agree with what Ian is saying, that the as digital has evolved over the years, the lines between traditional and digital PR have blurred meaning that we all now do PR.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the article.

Thanks for your comments +Wendy Marx  and +Bill Smith. I also agree that the blurring lines between PR and marketing is something very interesting indeed. I for one never really understood why they are so separate anyway. Truly great Marketing and PR campaigns always go hand in hand and the separating of the two in my experience leads to silo thinking.

Does anyone have advice on how to successfully pitch journalists over the phone? I don't know these journalists that I'm pitching, but I have to phone pitch them.

Any advice given will be greatly appreciated :)

Thought this might be of interest. Does anyone else have experience of boosting participation by borrowing from the geek lexicon?

Some great work carried out by the CIPR's #CIPRSM team to highlight best practice social media monitoring. Great not just for PR, but for business and management.

This is a nice infographic about how journalists use social.

However I couldn't disagree more that journalists should be contacted only by email. In my experience the best way to get coverage is to pick up the phone and discuss the story first, then send an email.

What does everyone else think?

No, you're all too in the "now". If you're in PR you need an actual "real" working relationship with journalists. Take it from someone with 30 years' experience (17 on dailies and the rest in PR - and for he past three years back to subbing one day a week on a Sunday paper). Lighten up +Claire Thompson

Great article on how the London Borough of Hackney reaches out to press, visitors, locals and tops the search charts through their online newsroom.

Hey guys, I have an #epic   #survey  I'd like your help with. Does adding #awesome  adjectives to your headlines make for higher levels of engagement? It may sound obvious, but I'm after some statistics. +1 the comments below on the following headlines you'd prefer to click on/share/like.

Twitter is experiencing some growing pains. How it reacted in the UK to it's #Trollgate crisis highlights how it's not in control of it's own reputation and why, with it's much awaited IPO on the horizon, it needs to ditch it's start-up image and behave like an grown-up international company.
