Here's a photo of attendees at our first Event in December!

In the end there were about ten of us, which meant we could all sit around a big table together and work on several different projects. We had enough power adaptors and croissants for everyone, no one minded about the stickers, and most importantly, someone in the office had found a fancy coffee machine hidden in a cupboard for us to use.

Some of us worked on collecting gender-neutral toilet locations from Open Street Map to add it to Refuge Restrooms (http://www.refugerestrooms.org/about), while another group researched trans-friendly holiday destinations. A third team decided to build a tool to find — or create — non-gendered names for nonbinary people (https://github.com/estherbrunner/non-binary-name). At the end of the day we videoconferenced with Naomi and the group who’d come to the first-ever American Trans*Code, in Chicago. Excitingly, a team there took up the nonbinary name generator and worked to improve it further (https://github.com/jeff-fichtner/baby-names-1000).

I wrote more about my experiences organising the December event for the PHP community blog, 24 Days in December, here: https://24daysindecember.net/2016/12/21/running-the-first-transcode-switzerland-hackday/

Life events have slightly held us up from arranging the next hackday, but expect to hear some updates soon!

Four weeks to go till Trans*Code!

There's (just under) four weeks to go until our first Trans*Code Switzerland event in Zürich. We're starting to get excited about it!

The event starts at 9.30am in the Liip Arena, when we'll eat breakfast together and swap ideas for what we could build. Then we will split into groups and work together for the rest of the day, with a break for a pizza lunch of course. If you want inspiration, check out the site here with hackday resources, ideas and past projects: http://trans-code.github.io/.

Trans*Code Chicago (http://trans.tech/chicago/) is taking place on the same day, so at around 4.30pm we'll set up a video link to say hi! Then we'll share our projects with the rest of the group and maybe make plans to keep working on them.

I'm really looking forward to this event. Sign up at Eventbrite and get thinking about what we can make together!
