Discussion topic for the day: Small business owners - do you a) use your web analytics information in specific ways to make informed decisions, b) nod knowingly at it and then go do other stuff, or c) ignore it altogether?

Greetings all... I will just be lurking in the corners and may make the occasional comment.  I run  blog where I discuss #fufism which is a marketing philosophy where social media is the core element that binds your marketing into one solid well oiled marketing  machine, that focuses on SEO and related issues within your web site and blogs.

enjoy and if you ask questions I will try to answer, I may answer as +Frank Gainsford (me ) or as +fufism  my page.

Anyone in this group ever used Canva before to design images for their blog / website? +Mike Allton turned me on to it and I must say it's pretty sweet.

It can help, but Google's algorithms are valuing that sort of thing less and less over time.

Welcome community members. Please feel free to ask questions. I'll answer all questions myself while the community is in its infancy. Make sure to invite other small business owners. This is a great opportunity to get some free advice from a website marketing professional!

There are loads of benefits to static sites if your clients don't need to add new pages to the site themselves (other than blogging which can be set up quickly)... speed, security, freedom of design. Once you are familiar with the process it's actually really quick to produce a site - quicker than a CMS (unless you just use a template).

I tend to use a mix of tools for doing sites but I'm a bit outside the box :-)

MS Expression Web 4 for building sites (the work flow is a lot quicker than the likes of Dreamweaver and you can see/edit the code as you work although you don't have to actually write it unless you want to) and Adobe Fireworks for graphics as it's really quick and simple to use compared to illustrator and photoshop.

These are both actually discontinued now so I should probably be updating but you spend ages getting slick with these things and they still seem to do the job.

I've been using Bluehost for years. They used to be really good, but they're just too big to care these days. Currently getting everything ready to move all my hosting to Siteground.
