About this community

PIGsty - otherwise known as the AUT Play, Interactivity & Gaming Research Cluster - is a proof of concept initiative developed by AUT Colab, for a future research lab that connects game projects, big and small, under-grad, post grad, commercial or serious to resources, funding and staff across all of AUT, Auckland, New Zealand and the world. It also will be working closely with the NZGDA to increase the profile of the NZ gaming industry by increasing the breadth of understanding for gaming opportunities, games-and-learning and learning-about-games for AUT and New Zealand covering creative, commercial and humanitarian game projects. If you are interested in the research of game related topics and/or are thinking about setting up a new business in the area of play, interactivity or games - come talk to us.

On August22-24 NZ Game Developers Association and AUT's Colab PIGsty ran the second year of the 48-hour game-maker-space known as Kiwi-Jam which started in 2013.

Some of the 64 game-jammers at the event, which had a constant waiting list, even participated in the global game-jam competition Ludum Dare.

Feedback from attendees was glowing, fun was had by all and the community forums are still buzzing with excitement around the notion of PIGsty running more frequent game-maker-spaces.

On the Saturday Microsoft NZ also sponsored a Unity3D crash course for beginners and a free lunch for both the workshop and the game-jam.  The workshop was run by and with help from Microsoft NZ's Hannes Nel.

A special PIGsty thanks goes out to the organizers who made this event possible:
Event coordinator Ben Kenobi, admin support Andrew Morrison and Steffan Hooper, social media vocalist Lianne Booton, Colab event logistics coordinator Harry Silver, and photographer Jaina Vallabh.
And an extra special thanks to our sponsors:
Competition organizers The Good Food Game, Microsoft NZ and Colab.

A brief breakdown of what happened and awards for the GoodFoodGame competition, along with some of the games from the jam, was be presented at the Akl Game Developers Meetup on Sep3.
