Last night's defeat by carom capture weighs heavy on +Matthew Whipple & +Brenna Bourque/ +Brenna Bourque who sit in the gloom on the opposite end of the battlefield.
[We also wish to thank Matt for the scotch & Brenna for the dutch apple pie, from which we were all winners.]

Catapult Persons-At-Arms ~
Remembered this particularly compelling "Nova" where modern day engineers have a time of it constructing a trebuchet, a weighted catapult variant.

Last night +Michelle H.+Brenna Bourque & yours truly played on the original 1983 Lakeside set, with winner staying in. Brenna's patience won over Michelle's carom launching battle frenzy, winning in her first game ever by imprisoning all her missiles. This Viking then beat Brenna with a spectacular catapult Hollywood ending shot to the tower, but she was pretty near to rangefinding a winning shot, so it could've gone either way. For the last game Michelle & I decided on two warriors dead & tower topple victory conditions, and after some alternating tower flag hits and requisite figures getting killed by falling wall bricks, Michelle struck the Viking tower dead on for the final win. A nice everyone-wins-one evening!

For my birthday, +Michelle H. scored her first two victories in a row against yours truly! (Note that this Barbarian player had been fed some strong craft brew beforehand, but she totally earned it.) We used the Base Toys 1992 Grand Battleset, which has inferior casting (so bear that in mind while shopping for vintage sets). The variances on this casting make for far less control on the catapult arms since they're less firmly seated, but the crossbows can be pulled further back past the lower safety catch which makes for seriously impressive power shots. Oddly the Castle Outposts this set comes with (which are normally sort of useless) became far more valuable since they seemed to have superior accuracy to the normal catapults. We played with Tower topples as our winning conditions, which she met first game with the Outpost, then second game with a stunning Crossbow powershot. Hails to the victorious Viking shieldmaiden +Michelle H.
