Thanks for the add. Can anyone point in the right direction for some good resources for beginners?

The MIT Media Lab (Human Dynamics Group), Brooklyn Law School (BLIP Clinic), UMKC Law School, and KCMO are working together in a semester long Legal Hackathon.  The following Google Hangout Ashley Hand talks improving the process around Business Permits and issues around the process.  It has good insight into both process issues and legal issues that need to be modernized.

This is one of my favorite topics because it is so easy to network in KC. As we know, there is only one degree of separation between you and the person who is going to be able to assist or mentor you. This is highlighted in the WeCreateKC report just out from KCSourcelink.

Looking forward to tonight's meeting.

Had fun at our last meeting deciding what will be the most important features for the 311 app.

I can't make it Monday, but I would like to share my thoughts:
What would be the ideal UX flow:
Flow 1
Take a picture
Open the 311 app
Select the picture
The app pulls the lat/long from the picture
Enter info
Provide optional contact info if you want feedback
Send
App retains my contact info for next time
Flow 2
Open the 311 app
Enter info
Take a picture
Provide optional contact info if you want feedback
Send
App retains my contact info for next time
Flow 3
Open the 311 app
See the status of recent issues you submitted
Move those issues to hidden if desired
See the status of issues reported by others
Select link that takes me to the city web site to see 311 response stats
Flow 4
Open the 311 app
Pick a problem
Enter info
Take or select a picture
Problems the City may have to prevent or alleviate:
A lot of anonymous rants
Inappropriate pictures
City may desire the ability to disable the app after it is obsolete
City may desire to block specific users from using the app if they have been abusive

Have you used 311?  Have you thought about using 311?
The Brigade's 311 team will be conducting interviews with the KCMO 311 staff.  So come learn what happens to your 311 requests.

Here are the links I mentioned in regard to city planning:

"The point is that we have been perpetuating an error when it comes to how we think about real estate. Our mistake has been looking at the overall value of a development project rather than its per unit productivity."
