This event will be held in Room #540. We will be discussing Food Deserts and how they are disproportionate in our community. Please come join us and find out more information on how this impacts your community! Snack & Drinks Provide.

This is the CDC’s definition (n.d.) “Food deserts are areas that lack access to affordable fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat milk, and other foods that make up the full range of a healthy diet”.
American Nutrition Association (n.d.) “Food deserts are defined as parts of the country vapid of fresh fruit, vegetables, and other healthful whole foods, usually found in impoverished areas. This is largely due to a lack of grocery stores, farmers’ markets, and healthy food providers”.

(Hilmer et al., 2012) “Accessibility of healthful food sources may lower the risk of overweight and obesity by facilitating healthier diets, and easy access to nutritionally inappropriate food sources may contribute to excessive and harmful weight gain” (p. 1651).

Guest Speaker: Victoria S. Nelson with The American Heart Association & Ramon Romero Jr. from District 90
