The crew at Playground Ideas have released a great manual on creating and designing your own playground. These topics are often the best suited to helping children have a real impact on their local environment while using the skillsets of design thinking. Marcus Veerman heads up the PlaygroundIdeas - let me know if you'd like an introduction. Play on!

Spent a great couple of days with the staff teams at St. Ambrose last week - some fantastic work happening and developing around deeper inquiry. One of the key reminders for me was that content can always become more specific - it should be one of the main outcomes of teacher planning to refine down the focus the learning for the students. Just this morning I saw this article about the discovery of a new species of jellyfish - a reminder that the world is still bringing us discoveries in small and wonderful ways.

Presenting prototypes - children very clever with using resources/technology to answer question - the best was the feedback - Chn recognised that they were able to inquire and present form their own choice of topic. This enabled the presentations to be unique as well as achieve outcomes.

Next step - pitching and sharing & passing the so what test. Took a while but now moving on to solving the question. Definitely a progression of thoughts and children able to choose their own learning topic in the PD unit.

Discovered this channel on the weekend - HUMAN - an exploration of short video stories that uncover the experiences, emotions, and elements that make us complex and powerful people. Some of these stories are hard-hitting, more suited to upper primary if they were to be used in the classroom. While there are some famous people here, I recommend Jane Goodall's and Francine Christophe's clips.

Year 1 at St Mel's are loving our design thinking this term on inventors and inventions! The stage 1 team are also loving it.
We will be focusing on the way communication has changed to suit our needs as technology has advanced. In the coming weeks they will be designing their own invention and pitching it to an audience.
