Due recent government attacks on street performers and artists, we are re-instituting this community and calling for renewed involvement to protecting the freedom of expression rights of people in downtown Santa Cruz.
Street performers and artists are workers who earn an income to supplement their jobs or support themselves entirely. Street performers and artists must be included in legislative processes that affect them. Free speech zones which seek to restrict 1st amendment rights are not acceptable. If politicians do not respond to our requests then we must work to elect better ones. Performers and artists provide a vital service to the social, economic and cultural life of downtown Santa Cruz.
The Santa Cruz Street Performers Guild is a consensus based community of Street Performers, Musicians and Artist. To be eligible a member should earn at least one dollar busking or selling art. Members meet at least once a month for street reports of current activities, work on agenda items, create petition against the new ordinances, set up events for promoting Streets arts and fund raising.
