The day I pulled this card was blazing hot, and so it seemed appropriate on all levels. The sun, source of all life, making its presence felt in every moment.

Later that day, my sweet Zoe Dog had to be put to sleep, a peaceful phrase for a mostly peaceful act that left a violent rend in my world. She was an old girl, and she had been failing for a few months, and although I told myself I was prepared, somewhere in my heart I thought if I plied her with enough tasty bits of meat and cheese she would recover.

And so I did not pull Death for my Zoe, as I did for the grandfather who raised me, although since he was in hospice care at the time the Death card really was overkill. I pulled The Source, which in a traditionally named deck would be the Ace of Wands. I'm not gone, my Zo-girl whispers. I'm returned and I'm with you and I'm everywhere all at once in a mystery.

Source is the creative fire available to me at all times. I don't always believe it's there, maybe like the primitive people who did not know where the life giving sun went at night, but Source doesn't require my belief to exist. But I do have to believe in order to tap in and get some.

Goodbye, my Zoe Dog. You were better than I deserved and I was less than you deserved but I will love you always.

Eagles fly far above the worries of the world. What care does an eagle have for the petty problems of the world below? In the sky, there's loneliness, maybe just detachment, but there's freedom too.

I have often felt love is binding. It's wonderful, delirious, luscious, lavish, and always worthwhile, but truthfully, it binds us too, particularly love for children and aging parents, pets or others who depend on us in a tangible way. I am less free than I might be without my kids, my granddaughter, the dogs to whom I am devoted, but I am also more deeply satisfied with life. It's about compromise; the ones we can live with and the ones we can't.

Trying a video reading this time ...

Does anyone use the gypsy tarot cards and is there any where that I could learn more about reading and using them online?
