Indian Slum Innovation: #Dharavi | By +editor indiacsr

Slums in #India are on a rise and the administration has failed altogether to find a solution for the urban poor in terms of housing. Necessity is the mother of invention and dwellers of the biggest slum, Dharavi (in #Mumbai) have found a way for themselves. Don’t you want to know how did Dharavi people solve this problem?

In India, the popular concept of doing any #socialwork or #charity is to go to rural areas or urban bastis to help the “poor” people. But do you use the opportunity of helping society or supporting good causes when its right in your neighbourhood, office or campus?

#India has been a land of #personality worshipping. Here people just wait for an individual to come and ‘enlighten’ them and free them from everything. They pretend to follow him and listen to him. They will discuss issues for several days and soon things comes back to ‘normal’. The fact is, each one of us has become habitual of ‘speaking the truth’ that suits us. This truth of convenience has damaged the social cause in India.

‘Rail me ghapla jee tel me ghapla’- remember that line from Song Ghapla hai jee ghapla! And it’s so true… corruption in India has penetrated at all levels and across all segments. From IPL fixing controversy to Railgate scandal; from Coal corruption scam to 3G – corruption seems infinite and omnipotent. What does public has to say about it?
