+pixls.us community member +Peter Lavender put together this amazing time-lapse video of the Milky Way using 685 images and Free Software (including +G'MIC)!

The results are mesmerizing.
He goes into greater detail on shooting and assembling the video on his thread in the forums: https://discuss.pixls.us/t/foss-time-lapse-of-the-milky-way/2992?u=patdavid

+pixls.us community member McCap brings us a neat tutorial for creating a wonderful "bloom" to images (in the vein of photographer +Masashi Wakui). Using , wavelet scales and luminosity masks to produce a dreamy result! Come follow along and try it yourself!
This tutorial explains how to achieve an effect based on the post processing by photographer Masashi Wakui. His primary subjects appear as urban landscape views of Japan where he uses some pretty and aggressive color toning to complement his scenes along with a soft ‘bloom’ effect on the highlights. The results evoke a strong feeling of an almost cyberpunk or futuristic aesthetic (particularly for fans of Bladerunner or Akira!). This tutorial sta...

Ok, I decided to make the current binaries available of my work-in-progress on G'MIC as a plugin for Adobe hosts (After Effects and Premiere Pro) and OpenFX (Nuke, Natron, etc.). Full sources as well as builds for Linux and MacOS should (hopefully) also be out later this year.

G'MIC interface for Adobe After Effects and OpenFX hosts
Version 0.1 (first beta/preview release, Windows binaries only!)

WHAT IS IT?
This is an attempt to make (part of) the functionality of the G'MIC open-source framework for image processing (http://www.gmic.eu) available in video editing hosts.

WARNING
This is a very early test release/preview, use at your own risk! Expect crashes and weird behaviour.
Feel free to report any errors you encounter, but be aware that this is pretty much still a proof-of-concept prototype interface.

LIMITATIONS
- Windows only (MacOS and Linux versions planned for the future)
- supported hosts:
Adobe After Effects (CS6 or higher)
Adobe Premiere Pro (CS6 or higher)
OpenFX hosts like The Foundry Nuke, Natron, Sony Vegas, etc.
- early beta, many things might not work as intended and plugin may crash the host!

WHERE TO GET IT
[direct download link removed, drop me a note if interested]

Might be good to see G'mic get in on this

Video Editor open source and so far its pretty darn good.

Guys this looks pretty good. Does anyone know if there is dev work going on intergrating some the features into Natron, Blender, Krita, OpenToonz, Audacity,

This has been a LONG TIME coming. My schedule has sort of pushed it back a bit, although it has long been at the front of my mind. I've been using GMIC since I learned about it so many years ago.

With great honor, I would like to award to David and his merry band of coders the coveted Knight of the Golden Wilber Award, for outstanding Full Featured Open Source Image Processing!

Congratulations, David and the GMIC Team!

Installation issues  -

Good morning. I'm trying to install G'MIC on my Mac and I've copied the executable to the two folders shown for Plug Ins in my GIMP preferences and when I restart GIMP, I can't see G'MIC in my filters. Has anyone already beaten this problem? Thanks.

Just wanted to know if people would be interested in taking a shared photo and putting their own “G’MIC Spin on it” and sharing it. I think it might be fun.

We're super-excited to welcome Free/Libre Software using Digital Painters to the discussion on the forums at PIXLS.US!

They're discussing approaching high-quality, fine art digital painting techniques and workflows. If you have an interest in painting with Free/Libre tools, please come by and say hello!

Thanks to +Americo Gobbo and Elle Stone for pushing to get something up and running (and +gustavo deveze for supplying some great images in the post)!
Yes, there really is art outside photography. :) The history and evolution of painting has undergone a similar transformation as most things adapting to a digital age. As photographers, we adapted techniques and tools commonl...

Here in the U.S., we have a big holiday coming up this week: Thanksgiving. Serendipitously, this holiday also happens to fall when a few neat things are happening around the community, and what better time is there to recogni...

No, it's RobA's lighting effect, he used gold, I just used silver environment map instead. And his chisel script, as well, for the bevel effect.
