What's the one skill when you play the drums on stage that usually takes years to develop, but we all wish we had it from day 1?

Confidence!

Even though I've been playing live for more than 20 years, the last few years have really improved my confidence in all areas on stage.

I was trying to figure out why that is, and if I can replicate it somehow.

Well, I think I've got the answer!

The answer lies in one word... focus!

In short, you need to cut out all the fluff and focus on the foundational aspects of your drumming.

The fewer things you focus on, the sooner you achieve confidence in them.

For me, that's been a solid tempo and a solid backbeat that compliments the music.

Once I started deliberately focusing on those things (and nothing else), I had a huge jump in confidence.

If you're interested in learning more about what I would recommend you focus on for live drumming and how to go about finding your own needs, I've written a detailed guide on how to supercharge your confidence on stage.
