We Are Not Broke: Trashing the Austerity Lies | Truthout

"To be very rich is to have the luxury of constructing a plausible theory of morality that allows you to hold on to everything you have. It is to believe that you can sit in the shoeshine booth and drive a $300,000 McLaren and raise money for Donald Trump and lobby for a zillion-dollar tax cut paid for on the backs of the poor and still be a good American. And to never have to think twice about it."

This is such a good article. I do hope people take the time to read it.

White House proposes steep budget cut to leading climate science agency | The Washington Post

"The Trump administration is seeking to slash the budget of one of the government’s premier climate science agencies by 17 percent, delivering steep cuts to research funding and satellite programs, according to a four-page budget memo obtained by The Washington Post.

The proposed cuts to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration would also eliminate funding for a variety of smaller programs, including external research, coastal management, estuary reserves and 'coastal resilience,' which seeks to bolster the ability of coastal areas to withstand major storms and rising seas."

Free Innocent "Dreamer" Daniel Ramirez Medina!

"Daniel Ramirez Medina is 23 years old, has a legitimate work permit under DACA, and has no criminal record. Yet he was arrested earlier this month because he came here as a young child and did not have documentation.

This arrest sets a dangerous precedent. Over 750,000 people received work permits under President Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, started in 2012. This group of people are also known as 'dreamers'. When one gets arrested, it opens up the potential for nearly a million other illegitimate arrests. These people are law-abiding, hard-working residents of the United States. Deportation is not the answer - no human is illegal.

Daniel Ramirez Medina has no criminal record. He did nothing to deserve an arrest, and under President Trump, this could be setting a dangerous precedent of millions more devastating deportations."

Click for details and please SIGN and share petition to tell Department of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly to free Daniel Ramirez Medina and end these unjust arrests!

Balance Billing Would Allow Doctors to Bill Whatever They Choose | Medicare Rights

"As policymakers continue to debate the future of our country’s health care system, some policymakers endorse proposals to give Medicare providers the right to charge seniors and people with disabilities more for their care through balance billing or private contracting. Under these plans, Medicare providers could require patients to negotiate a contract for the cost of their care, and people with Medicare would have additional payments on top of their premiums, copayments, and coinsurance. Unless they successfully negotiate otherwise, patients would also be responsible for filing the Medicare claim."

I don't know about anyone else here, but anyone who has cared for an aging parent knows, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that this is beyond ridiculous.

Not every old person has access to family members or anyone else to help them. Filing insurance forms isn't easy for most people to do, let alone a senior who may even have some dementia starting. This is the reason doctors file these forms for us -- they'd like to get paid.

Senator Dan Bishop: Don't Introduce Legislation to Criminalize Free Political Speech

"We protest Republican State Senator Dan Bishop's call to introduce a bill in the NC State Legislature that would 'make it a crime to threaten, intimidate, or retaliate against a present or former North Carolina official in the course of, or on account of, the performance of his or her duties.' He proposed this after protestors followed former NC Governor McCrory at the Women's March in Washington DC chanting 'shame, shame, shame' for his support of the notorious anti-LGBTQ law known as House Bill 2.

Are we really at the point in the crumbling of our Democracy in which the right to free speech exercised by protestors is criminalized, while the right to bear any sort of automatic gun is legal? Is the word 'shame' more feared by a Republican ex-Governor than a bullet?

The citizens in Washington D.C. last week protesting former Governor Pat McCrory were exercising their constitutionally-protected right to freedom of expression. To criminalize such expression by characterizing it as 'retaliation' or 'intimidation' is not only unconstitutional, it also has the ugly appearance of a bold effort of the NC GOP to subvert our democratic political process and strip the people of their ability to hold elected officials to account.

Dan Bishop's duties as NC Senator are to 'support the Constitution and laws of the United States and the Constitution of the State of North Carolina'."

Click for details and please SIGN and share petition demanding Senator Dan Bishop desist from introducing any legislation that would criminalize free speech in the State of North Carolina.
