Advice from youth mental health team.
In extreme cases you should just revert back to calming the child and getting them back from that reptile “panicking” brain and back up to the calm mammalian brain as much as possible. Soothing the child and letting them know they are safe. Holding the child, hugging them etc. Even getting a blanket around them and mimicking the womb and making them feel warm and safe. Once you have soothed the child and they are calm then you can try to chat the the child how their anxiety feelings.
