life in full color

This is one of the many volunteers in today's kids run nearby where I live. There were all kind of obstacles like logs, mud, and even zombies. Thankfully it was early in the morning before the heat really started. Everyone seemed to have a great time, but somehow I think that the volunteers throwing the color maybe had just a little more than the rest.

Intimidation
Another one from my shoot last week, I think this is my favorite of all the images.  I created the background from two images, a stadium and a crowd, and then created the lights in PS.  Here's a link to the before images https://goo.gl/b7eKmz

Had a fun shoot with this young man last week, and even more fun creating some custom backgrounds that I'll be able to reuse.

Earlier tonight I posted a cropped version of this image of +Scott Jarvie Here is the link in case you didn't see it and want to:

I received some good feedback about the uncropped version and how the camera in the image helps tell the story, and I totally agree.  Scott is a photographer, and a darn good one, so it's only right that his portrait should have the tool of his trade included in it.

I had the pleasure of meeting +Scott Jarvie a few weeks ago in Las Vegas - and by meeting I mean it was kind of like that skit on Saturday Night Live with Chris Farley and Paul McCartney.
Me: Hey Scott, remember that time when you went out to that cool place with your camera, pressed the shutter and made that picture?"
Scott: Um, yeah?
me: That was awesome.

Maybe it was the hot warm midday sun, but somehow I worked up the nerve to ask him if I could take a few shots of him, and I actually pulled out my flash for this one to try to compensate for the bright sun.  I'm actually pretty happy how this turned out (this is the cropped version - I have a full body one as well)

In case you've never had the pleasure of seeing the skit I mentioned, here is a link http://www.boreme.com/posting.php?id=15851#.VQd2WGTF_g8

Day 5 of 5 Black and white challenge
Each line tells a story

I started with a portrait and so I'm ending with one as well, this one probably the newest of my images posted the last five days.

Thanks +Chrysta Rae for the challenge.  Today I am extending the challenge to +Jeffrey Yen.  Five days - five BW photos, and challenge a new person each day to do the same.

Day 2 of 5 - Black and white challenge

+Chrysta Rae challenged me in the 5 Day B&W challenge. The rules are simple - post one B&W image a day for 5 days, and  challenge someone each day.
Today I challenge the über talented +E.E. Giorgi who has more smarts, talent and vision in her little finger that I will ever have.

I took this image earlier this year at an 80's party, and composited in the background. The gentleman in the photo is a local DJ and he was very kind to indulge me and let me take his photo.

Someone asked yesterday about how I created the shot so I'll share how I did this one. I used a 7 foot silver umbrella with a diffusion cover, one flash. Umbrella was placed camera left and at a slight angle from the subject.

Day 1 of 5 - Black and white challenge
Yesterday +Chrysta Rae challenged me in the 5 Day B&W challenge. The rules are simple - post one B&W image a day for 5 days, and challenge someone each day to do the same.

I was going to challenge +Karin Nelson but +Sandra Parlow got to her before me.  So instead today I'm going to challenge +richard stanton - the man in this photo - who does some amazing work. He's still kind of new here on G+ so go check him out.

This is Pete, he is a volunteer at the Albany Historic Carousel and Museum where he and many other volunteers have been hand carving and painting the figures for this uncompleted carousel.  They have been working on this project since 2002 and according to the site (http://albanycarousel.com/) more than 145,000 hours have already been donated.

Pete was nice enough to let me bug him talk to him while he worked on the English Bulldog  named Timber, that in his spare time he has been working on for (around 10 months).  This really is a labor of love for all that work there.  If you live in Oregon and happen to be passing by Albany, it's worth a stop to see, there is some incredible workmanship and it's great to be able to walk in and see figures that  have just been started, to others nearing completion, to those that are complete.  I'll be making another trip down there for sure.

Thanks +Pat Kight for organizing the photowalk
