Unorthodox Computer Challenge : Final Thoughts on the RemixMini

I am normally not one for benchmarks but this had to be done. The #RemixMini scores a mere 5,931 on Quadrant which outpaces the HTC One X. My Nexus 6 scores over 12,000 and my Nvidia Shield Tablet scores an insane 274,030 on the same tests.

These benchmarks do not always translate into real world usage so please take these numbers with a grain of salt. Benchmarks only tell a small portion of the story and several factors go into them.

Late last night, I replaced my PC with the #Android Powered #RemixMini and will be using it as my primary computer for the next 2 weeks as part of my #UnorthodoxComputerChallenge

Heads Up : Tonight I am giving up my main computer for 2 weeks and exchanging it with the Android Powered RemixMini Computer. Unlike normal Android units, the RemixMini runs most Android applications in a Windowed Mode which in theory should make multitasking much easier. They accomplish this with a custom build of Android known as RemixOS.

I have had this unit sitting on my desk for a few weeks now and cannot wait to take it for a spin. I got it early as I was a Kickstarter backer. Jide, the company behind the RemixMini just launched the product on Amazon if you want to pick up your own unit. It should make a great gift for kids or anyone who needs a simple computer. You can pick it up at http://amzn.to/1QMA9Ym .

It has a quad core processor MTK processor, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. A microSD card slot and 2 USB 2.0 ports round it out nicely. It has WiFi and Bluetooth as well.

It is sort of sad that this computer costs 3x less then the monitor I have it connected to.
