Sangeet Ceremony of My Big Brother Wedding

😁17 pics😁

One of the most talked about pre-wedding events, the Sangeet, is a celebration of coming together of the two families in the union of their children. The ceremony offers respite from all the hectic seriousness of the wedding preparations. Women of the family get together several days before the wedding day with dolaks and spoons, surround the bride and sing traditional wedding songs. Subjects of the song range from about daily life of women to teasing the groom about her upcoming wedding and his bride. The groom is referred to as Banna in these songs whereas the groom is known as Banni or Banno. Popular traditional songs include ‘Mehendini Mehendi’, ‘Lathe di Chadar’, ‘Laung Gawacha’ and ‘Kala Doriyaan’. There would be dancing as well, with the women of the household dancing away along with the bride participating with gusto. Previously, it used to last for a few days, but nowadays its mostly one day, and sometimes one evening.

Sangeet Ideas
The sky is the limit when it comes to planning a sangeet. There are no set rules and you can pour out all your bridal dreams if you have a permissive budget. The attire one chooses for the sangeet is one of the best in the trousseau, second only to the wedding attire.

Significance
The Sangeet is traditionally a fixture in most north Indian weddings. It presents an exciting and fun-filled concept for the two families about to be joined in matrimony to let loose and get to know each other in a less formal setting. Plus it adds a lot of fun and color to any marriage ceremony, across any culture. During Sangeet, the family comes together to celebrate the act of two young hearts coming together. Relatives from out of state and even out of country gather and bring bits and pieces of their newly adopted cultures. In olden times, the sangeet used to serve as a respite from all the tensions and seriousness of the wedding preparations. Ceremonies like this prove how much of a social importance and event like wedding holds in the lives of Indians.

My Big Brother Haldi (Turmeric) Ceremony one of important Pre-wedding ceremony of Hindu wedding...

Why Haldi ceremony ??

The haldi ceremony is one of the most exciting and important pre-wedding ceremonies during the wedding. If you are the bride-to-be, then be sure to enjoy the event and seek blessings from all the elders to ensure that your wedding is smooth and stress-free.

The haldi ceremony is a pre-wedding ritual that is religiously followed all across the country and is observed a couple of days before the wedding ceremony. The ritual is held at both the bride and the groom’s place separately, usually in their respective homes.
The ceremony gets its name from the application of haldi or turmeric that happens during the ritual. The importance given to turmeric in Indian kitchens and rituals is phenomenal, thanks to the host of health benefits that it offers. Haldi is not just used to add taste and colour to food, but it also bears significant religious importance.

The most important component of the haldi ceremony is the ‘haldi paste’ that is made by mixing turmeric, sandalwood powder and rose water to form a fragrant mixture that is applied on the body. Elderly ladies in the family apply this paste on the hands, feet, arms, legs and face of the bride and the groom and bless them as they gear up for their big day. The event is replete with lots of music, fun and tasty food before the madness of the wedding festivities begin!

Significance of the Haldi Ceremony

To Ward off Evils

Haldi is said to ward off the evil eye as per religious texts. Application of the haldi is said to protect the bride and the groom from any bad omen that might harm them before their big day. It is for the same reason that the bride and the groom are prohibited from stepping outside once the haldi ceremony is over. After this, they only get to go out on the day of the wedding.

As a Symbol of Blessings

The ladies who apply the haldi paste on the couple also shower them with blessings of a happy and healthy married life something that is considered invaluable as the couple sets off to begin a new life with each other.

Purification

Turmeric, according to ancient Hindu texts is said to have purification powers. Application of the paste cleanses the body and the soul of the couple that is going to be tied into holy matrimony. It marks an auspicious start to a new life together with a pure heart and soul.

For the Glow

All said and done, the haldi ceremony also has ‘actual tangible’ benefits as well! The paste that is applied during the haldi ceremony is a strong antiseptic that prevents acne and pimples. It also sloughs off dead skin to reveal glowing skin underneath. What’s more, the faint yellow stain left behind by the turmeric gives you an ethereal glow that is both beautiful and divine.
